ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
The primary role of the Manager – Product Engineering is to provide leadership and act as a technical liaison on projects and activities involving product specifications, product development, standard BOMs/costs, industry standards, and part number management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the generation of standard bills of materials used to respond to customer requests for quotation and standard costing.
- Responsible for the overall operation and implementation of systems to support cable design and the standard BOMs (Cablebuilder).
- Submission of annual standard BOMs to support frozen cost standards with Finance.
- Manage the creation, review and implementation of technical (Design) specifications to comply with industry standards and specific customer product requirements.
- Manage the systems and processes for the assignment of finished goods raw material and WIP part numbers.
- Provide input and project review for product development projects.
- Manage corporate representation in Industry Codes and Standards activities, including ICEA, Telcordia and UL.
- Manage systems and data acquisition processes to ensure compliance with various Buy American statutes for Superior Essex products.
- Provide review and technical response to Request for Quotes.
- Manage Product Engineers in 2nd level technical support for Sales and communicate with customers when required to discuss product requirements.
- Travel to plants, customer locations and standards meetings when required.
- Manage the objectives, priorities, and travel for all direct reports.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Advanced math skills
- Ability to demonstrate logical thinking in problem solving
- Demonstrated knowledge of cable manufacturing, product design and industry performance standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or significant equivalent work experience in a technical position in the wire and cable industry.
- Experience in wire and cable manufacturing is highly preferred.
- 4 years’ experience working with the communications cable industry.
- Knowledge of standard bills of materials and costs.

None required.

- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Enterprise (ERP) systems
- Cable design programs experience desired.
