About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Professional Services Engineer to deliver enterprise infrastructure projects based on SmartX’s full-stack cloud platform. You will translate customer requirements into deployable technical solutions and ensure successful delivery from planning through production go-live, including deployment, migration, integration, validation, knowledge transfer, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead or participate in end-to-end delivery of SmartX Enterprise Cloud Platform projects.
· Conduct technical discovery, environment assessments, deployment-readiness reviews, and solution workshops with customers.
· Develop implementation plans, low-level design documents, runbooks, test plans, migration plans, rollback plans, and handover documentation.
· Install, configure, validate, and optimise platform components across compute, storage, networking, virtualization, observability, backup, and disaster recovery.
· Design cluster configurations that meet workload, availability, performance, capacity, network, and security requirements.
· Deliver virtualization and private-cloud projects, including VM provisioning, HA, live migration, virtual networking, storage configuration, and lifecycle management.
· Support VMware replacement and migration initiatives, including assessment, planning, execution, validation, and cutover support.
· Implement backup, replication, disaster recovery, and business-continuity capabilities aligned to agreed RPO and RTO objectives.
· Perform system validation, functional testing, performance verification, failover testing, and acceptance testing.
· Identify technical risks, dependencies, environment gaps, and operational constraints early and provide mitigation recommendations.
· Deliver administrator training, technical handover sessions, and operational best-practice guidance.
· Support project managers with status updates, technical issue tracking, schedules, and customer communications.
Technical Requirements
Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure
· Strong hands-on experience with KVM, VMware vSphere, OpenStack, HCI, private cloud, or comparable enterprise virtualization platforms.
· Solid understanding of hypervisor architecture, VM lifecycle management, virtual networking, HA, live migration, resource scheduling, templates, snapshots, and workload placement.
· Experience with VMware migration, modernization, or replacement projects is highly desirable.
· Good understanding of CPU, memory, NUMA, virtual disks, virtual NICs, resource overcommitment, workload isolation, and performance considerations.
Storage and Hyperconverged Infrastructure
· Strong knowledge of block storage, file storage, distributed storage, and hyperconverged infrastructure architecture.
· Experience with capacity planning, performance planning, fault-domain design, storage networking, and resilience design.
· Understanding of replication, striping, snapshots, cloning, thin provisioning, data rebuild, and data-protection concepts.
· Ability to analyse IOPS, throughput, latency, queue depth, disk utilisation, and workload characteristics.
· Familiarity with NVMe, SSD, HDD, all-flash, hybrid storage, RAID, and JBOD configurations.
Networking, Security, DR, and Automation
· Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, bonding/LACP, MTU, ACLs, firewalls, and network troubleshooting.
· Experience designing management, storage, migration, backup, and business networks for enterprise infrastructure.
· Familiarity with virtual switching, distributed virtual switches, overlay networking, traffic isolation, and micro-segmentation.
· Knowledge of RDMA, RoCE, SR-IOV, multi-NIC bonding, and bandwidth aggregation is advantageous.
· Strong understanding of backup, restore, replication, failover, failback, DR testing, and RPO/RTO principles.
· Comfortable with Linux command-line tools and Shell scripting; Python, Ansible, REST APIs, JSON, YAML, or automation experience is advantageous.
Experience and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
· 5+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure delivery, virtualization, private cloud, HCI, storage, data centre, or cloud platform implementation.
· Demonstrable experience delivering at least two enterprise infrastructure projects involving deployment, migration, upgrade, disaster recovery, or platform modernization.
· Customer-facing technical consulting, professional services, implementation engineering, or systems-integration experience is preferred.
· VMware VCP, RHCSA/RHCE, CCNP, HCIP, cloud, or storage certifications are advantageous.
· Experience with financial services, public sector, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, telecommunications, or large-enterprise customers is a plus.
