The Department of Mathematics at Ohio University seeks applicants for the endowed David N. Keck Chair in Applied Analysis, at the rank of (full) Professor with tenure, to increase the national prominence of the college and university in this academic area. The Chair will • Guide the newly established David N. Keck Center for Applied Mathematics, • Conduct scholarly research, • Share knowledge with our university communities, • Mentor students at all levels, including directing doctoral dissertations and supervising postdoctoral researchers, • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and • Participate in the general activities of the department. The Chair filling this position should be well placed at the intersection of applied mathematics and analysis, especially in the development and application of differential and integral equations, dynamical systems, probability theory and stochastic processes, numerical analysis and other areas rooted in the general area of analysis. The endowment will provide core benefits to the Chair of: • A salary enhancement, • A reduction in scheduled teaching, and • Funds for travel, registrations, software, materials, visitors, publication charges, hourly undergraduate research assistants, etc. The David N. Keck Center for Applied Mathematics was established to advance research, teaching, and innovation in the field of applied mathematics by supporting faculty excellence, student development, and scholarly collaboration. In addition to the endowed Chair, the Center is expected to have sufficient funds to support • David N. Keck Postdoctoral Visiting Professors, • Research activities of member faculty, • Student research assistants, and • Other discretionary activities. The department has a broad mission, from teaching general education classes through mentoring doctoral students and conducting research.
