Company Overview
Maas Energy Works is the leading developer and operator of agricultural waste-to-energy systems in the United States. The Company designs, develops, constructs, and operates biogas powered renewable energy generation systems on dairy farms. Our projects include anaerobic digesters, biogas-powered electric generation, and renewable natural gas upgrading.
Position Description
Maas Energy Works (MEW) is seeking a Project Manager 2 to independently own and deliver dairy digester and renewable natural gas projects located in various states. The Project Manager 2 (PM 2) is the project owner for their assigned projects and is accountable for schedule, budget, scope, contracts, and stakeholder communication across the full project lifecycle: Feasibility Analysis (Preliminary 30% Design Concept and Financial Project Modeling), Final Civil and Project Design, RFP/Bidding, Contracting, Construction, Commissioning, and Handoff to Operations and Environmental Compliance.
PM 2s excel at meeting all Key Performance Objectives of the PM position and demonstrate a depth of understanding, management, and ownership across every part of a project: engineering and design, proformas and financial modeling, project schedules, legal agreements and contracts, scopes of work, budgets, and the Company’s PM software and tools (Wrike, Quickbase, financial proformas, etc.).
PMs are leaders, not just task executors: they set the tone for success by coordinating departments, contractors, and project owners, and they hold themselves and others accountable to project goals.
Responsibilities
Project Ownership & Leadership

Independently own assigned projects end to end; know where each project stands on schedule, budget, scope, and open issues at all times and drive them to completion.
Prioritize critical path tasks consistently to maintain project momentum and meet project deadlines; manage general tasks so projects gain traction.
Lead by example: foster collaboration across departments, contractors, and project owners; encourage proactive problem-solving; and hold yourself and others accountable.
Identify project risks early, propose mitigations, and escalate to the Senior Project Manager with a recommended path forward.

Schedule & Work Breakdown Structure

Own project schedules and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure for each project

Budget, Spending & Financial Controls

Own project budgets; review and update projected additional costs and notes weekly so budget status is accurate.
Review and approve invoices.
Process change orders (COs) and purchase orders (POs) efficiently and in accordance with Company process.

Proformas & Financial Modeling

Own the project proforma; ensure the project generates the highest return on the project owner’s investment and keep the proforma current with changes from contracts, budgets, and design decisions so owners have reliable data for investment decisions.

Design, Permitting, Contracts & Procurement

Lead coordination with Engineering on design concepts, final civil and project design, and design revisions.
Lead negotiation and execution of project agreements with Legal, including commercial agreements, easements and lease agreements, and owner-builder contracts; track and enforce contract obligations.
Coordinate with Permitting to secure required permits and approvals and integrate permit conditions into the project schedule.
Lead procurement of manure and biogas equipment: scope, quotes, purchase orders, and delivery sequencing against the construction schedule.

Bidding, Construction & Commissioning

Lead RFP and bid package preparation, bid leveling, and contractor selection with Engineering & Construction Management.
Ensure IRA compliance for assigned projects: project owners maximize available IRA tax benefits and contractors adhere to Apprenticeship, Domestic Content, and Prevailing Wage requirements.
Lead commissioning coordination and a documented handoff to Operations and Environmental Compliance at project completion.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum of three years of EPC project management experience with demonstrated ownership of projects through all lifecycle stages: feasibility, design, bidding, contracting, construction, commissioning, and handoff.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Agriculture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Demonstrated command of project budgets, schedules, contracts, change orders, and financial models; able to explain how design and cost decisions affect project economics.
