Project Manager – Telecommunications

Salary: AUD 1000 - 1100 per day

I'm looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong background delivering large-scale telecommunications network programs to join a major national communications modernisation program based in Melbourne. This is a long-term contract opportunity, with the program of work expected to run for approximately 24 months. This is NOT an IT infrastructure, enterprise networking or corporate technology role.

The focus of this role is on the delivery of a complex telecommunications network supporting operational and mission-critical services across multiple locations. You’ll work closely with telecommunications technical leads, subject matter experts, internal stakeholders and a managed service provider to ensure the program is delivered safely, effectively and to plan.

You’ll be joining an established multi-year program that is already underway, with responsibility for driving assigned workstreams through delivery, managing dependencies and coordinating the technical resources required to get the job done. Your responsibilities will include managing scope, schedule, budget, work packages, risks, issues and dependencies, while coordinating technical teams and external delivery partners. You’ll also work closely with the program scheduler and PMO around delivery plans, forecasts, governance and reporting.

I'm particularly interested in Project Managers who have delivered complex telecommunications or communications network programs involving areas such as carrier networks, transmission, telecommunications infrastructure, operational communications, radio or other large-scale communications environments.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Significant Project Management experience within telecommunications, communications networks or systems engineering environments.
• A strong track record delivering large, technically complex projects involving managed service providers and third-party vendors.
• Experience coordinating technical resources, suppliers, work packages and dependencies across a broader program.
• Strong commercial awareness around project budgets, forecasts and delivery milestones.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including confidence working with senior stakeholders and escalating issues where required.
• Experience operating within structured PMO and governance environments while keeping delivery moving.

The position requires substantial Project Management experience within a systems engineering environment, together with previous delivery of large, complex projects involving managed service providers or third-party vendors.
This would particularly suit someone who has spent their career managing telecommunications network rollouts, upgrades or modernisation programs and is comfortable leading engineers and technical specialists without needing to be the technical engineer themselves.

If your background is primarily IT infrastructure, LAN/WAN, cloud, data centre or enterprise IT networking, this will not be the right role for you.
