Psychiatrist
Job Summary: Performs patient care focusing on individual differences, abnormal behavior, mental disorders and
their prevention and improvement of patient lifestyles. This is realized through counseling and psychotherapeutic
services. Serves as a consultant to other healthcare staff.
- Works with the patient/patient population that exhibit problems with intellectual function;
biological, emotional, psychological, social and behavioral maladjustments, disabilities,
distress, mental disorders. - Ability to perform psychological assessment, diagnosis, intervention and evaluation of
patients/patients of all ages, adolescent through the geriatric population. - Possesses knowledge of theories of psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic methods.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development throughout the lifespan.
- Counsels individuals, families, groups, couples.
- Administers psychological tests.
- Supervises other members of the department including psychological technicians,
biofeedback technicians, students, etc. - Actively develops and participates in research studies.
- Consults other disciplines to provide for an multidisciplinary approach to the
patients needs. - Performs crisis intervention.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of a
treatment plan and provides education. - Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and
reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. - Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized in stressful situations.
- Respects patient/patient cultural beliefs so long that those cultural beliefs do not pose a
danger to the patient/patient. - Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Seeks supervision and consultation when needed.
- Adheres to professional practice standards, ethical principles and legal standards in
clinical practice. - Stays current with new developments in clinical psychology through continuing education,
training, professional societies and journals.
Professional Requirements:
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
- Attends at least ____ staff meetings annually, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting
minutes. - Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement
(CQI) activities. - Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement
of the department.
