A Day in the Life of this Role:

Reporting to the Associate Medical Director of Psychiatric Services, you will practice integrated and collaborative psychiatry, closely collaborating with primary care clinicians to enhance their psychiatric diagnostic capabilities and therapeutic management skills. Your primary responsibilities will include providing consultations for the primary care service, ensuring timely access to psychiatric care for OCHS' primary care patients, and fostering effective communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary teams.

Summary of Duties:

  • Provide psychiatric consultation for patients who are referred by primary care including diagnosis assessment, treatment planning and management of psychiatric conditions.
  • Assist primary care providers with diagnostic clarification and determination of appropriate levels of behavioral health and psychiatric care.
  • Provide recommendations regarding psychotropic medications, including medication selection, dosing, monitoring, potential interactions and treatment response.
  • Work closely with primary care clinicians, including physicians and advanced practice practitioners, to integrate psychiatric care into the overall healthcare plan. Collaborate on assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans to maximize patients' well-being.
  • Effective Communication: Demonstrate excellent communication skills in collaborating with all team members within the Psychiatry team and the Primary Care team to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Clinical Excellence: Deliver evidence-based psychiatric care, incorporating the latest research and best practices into patient treatment plans.
  • Patient-Centered Care: Prioritize patient-centered care, fostering a therapeutic alliance with patients and their families to achieve optimal mental health outcomes.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards and timely completion of all documentation, coding and billing within 72 hours of direct patient care.
  • Education and Training: Stay current with advances in psychiatry through continuous education and training activities, sharing knowledge and expertise with the healthcare team.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of psychiatric services within OCHS.
  • Ethical Practice: Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards, demonstrate empathy, cultural competence, and sensitivity in patient interactions.
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned.
