PWT Design Quality Lead Engineer

Summary

Lead/SME engineer at VinFast in Hanoi owning the electrical/electronic architecture, integration and validation of EV powertrain and drivetrain systems (e-motors, inverters, batteries, charging, controls) from concept through production, working with CAN/LIN/Ethernet networks, AUTOSAR, ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434.

Position Context

  • The EE Powertrain, Drivetrain & Integration SME Lead Engineer is responsible for leading the electrical and electronic architecture development, integration, and validation of EV Powertrain and Drivetrain systems across vehicle programs.
  • The role serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Powertrain EE systems, ensuring seamless integration of hardware, software, controls, communication networks, and vehicle-level functions while achieving performance, safety, quality, cost, and timing targets.
  • The position provides technical leadership across concept development, vehicle integration, validation, launch, and production support activities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical SME for:
    • Electric Drive Unit (EDU)
    • E-Motor Systems
    • Inverters
    • Battery Systems
    • Power Electronics
    • Charging Systems
    • Power Distribution Systems
    • Vehicle Control Functions
    • Drivetrain Control Systems
  • Lead EE powertrain system integration from concept development through production launch.
  • Define and manage vehicle-level requirements, interfaces, and functional integration for powertrain and drivetrain systems.
  • Ensure successful integration of:
    • High Voltage (HV) Systems
    • Low Voltage (LV) Systems
    • Vehicle Networks (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, Ethernet)
    • Diagnostics and Service Functions
    • Functional Safety Requirements
    • Cybersecurity Requirements
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Powertrain, Battery, Thermal, Chassis, Safety, Software, ADAS, and Vehicle Integration teams.
  • Lead system architecture reviews, design reviews, and technical feasibility assessments.
  • Manage technical interface alignment between internal teams and global suppliers.
  • Support development of system specifications, interface control documents, and integration requirements.
  • Lead root cause investigations and resolution of vehicle-level integration issues.
  • Support vehicle commissioning, prototype builds, validation, and launch activities.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Functional Safety (ISO 26262)
    • Cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434)
    • Charging Regulations
    • EMC Requirements
    • Global Vehicle Regulations
  • Drive continuous improvement of EE integration processes, engineering standards, and technical roadmaps.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering teams across EE and vehicle integration functions.


Requirements

Education / Professional Knowledge

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in automotive Electrical & Electronics engineering, with extensive experience in Powertrain and Vehicle Integration.
  • Proven experience in EV development programs from concept through production.
