Python / PHP Application Developer

Hybrid Working – Office and Home

My Client is looking for a hands‑on Python / PHP Application Developer to join its IT team and develop bespoke applications that support and improve its retail operations.

The main focus will be building an application to connect existing inventory, stock replenishment and third‑party warehouse systems. You'll take ownership of the development process, from understanding requirements and designing the user interface through to coding, testing and implementation.

There will also be opportunities to work on wider digital projects involving BigCommerce, omnichannel retail, Odoo POS and potentially CRM systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance business applications using Python and PHP.
  • Work with SQL Server databases to consolidate, validate and manage data.
  • Integrate existing systems to improve stock management and replenishment processes.
  • Design user‑friendly interfaces for store managers and Head Office teams.
  • Work with users to gather requirements, test applications and resolve issues.
  • Contribute to ecommerce, POS and wider systems integration projects.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Commercial experience developing applications using Python and PHP.
  • Strong SQL/database skills, ideally with SQL Server.
  • Experience developing Windows‑based business applications.
  • A practical, problem‑solving approach and the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience with inventory, replenishment, warehouse or order management systems.
  • Systems integration and Excel integration experience.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Windows IIS, SSIS or Visual Basic.
  • Familiarity with BigCommerce, Odoo, ERP, POS or WMS platforms.

Ideally, you'll have five or more years' experience developing Windows-based applications and at least two years' experience with Python and PHP.

You won't need experience with every system listed; strong application development and integration skills are the priority.

The Opportunity

Join a collaborative IT team where you can take ownership of meaningful development projects, improve business processes and contribute to wider digital initiatives within an established international retail business.

Hybrid working is available, combining home and office working.
