Senior QA Automation Engineer Mobile

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer with 7+ years of experience, with a strong focus on mobile application testing and automation. The role requires hands-on experience across iOS and Android, automation frameworks, CI pipelines, web/API testing, and mobile usability. Native mobile development expertise is not required, but strong mobile app testing experience is essential.

This is a mobile-first automation role, where mobile automation and framework development are the primary areas of focus. Candidates should be comfortable working across mobile, web, API, and manual testing while taking ownership of automation quality and release readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and enhance automated test frameworks for iOS and Android applications.
• Test across real devices, iOS Simulator, and Android Emulator.
• Integrate and maintain mobile automation suites within CI/CD pipelines.
• Perform web and API automation testing.
• Validate mobile releases and troubleshoot issues across staging and production environments.
• Ensure strong coverage of functionality, usability, regression, and cross-platform compatibility.
• Create and maintain test plans, test scenarios, test cases, and release validation reports.
• Perform manual, exploratory, and regression testing where required.
• Drive release validation, production readiness, and quality sign-off activities.
• Work closely with Product Managers, Developers, and Designers to ensure quality throughout the development lifecycle.

What We're Looking For

Framework Ownership

• Mobile automation is the highest priority for this role.
• Candidates should have hands-on experience designing, building, maintaining, and extending mobile automation frameworks, not just executing existing test cases.
• Experience building and maintaining web automation frameworks is also valuable, as it demonstrates strong framework design, maintainability, scalability, and CI/CD practices.

Playwright Expectations

• Playwright experience is preferred but is not the primary selection criterion.
• Candidates with strong mobile automation expertise and experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, Page Object Model (POM), and automation framework design will be considered even if they have limited Playwright exposure.
• We value candidates who can learn and contribute to Playwright automation quickly.

Mobile Framework Expectations

We already have existing web (Playwright) and API automation suites that need to be maintained and extended.

For mobile automation:

• No specific mobile automation tool is mandatory.
• We are open to candidates with strong experience in Appium, Mobilewright, Detox, WebdriverIO, XCUITest, or similar modern mobile automation technologies.
• The ideal candidate can help build, improve, and scale our mobile automation framework and integrate it into our CI/CD pipelines.
• We will also consider highly technical candidates who can quickly learn our mobile automation stack and contribute effectively.

Priority

Mobile automation expertise is more important than Playwright experience.

Must-Have Skills

• 6+ years of mobile application testing experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Appium, Mobilewright, Detox, or similar mobile automation tools, including testing on real devices.
• Comfortable working with Xcode, iOS Simulator, Android Studio, and Android Emulator.
• Proven experience designing, building, maintaining, or enhancing automation frameworks, preferably mobile-first frameworks.
• Experience running and maintaining mobile automation suites within CI pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Playwright or willingness to learn quickly, supported by strong TypeScript/JavaScript and framework development skills.
• Experience with web automation testing using Playwright with TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Experience with API testing using Postman/Newman.
• Experience with TestFlight and CodePush for mobile release validation.
• Experience using GitHub and working within PR-based development workflows.
• Experience using Datadog or similar observability tools to investigate staging and production issues.
• Strong understanding of:
• Mobile usability testing
• Cross-platform compatibility testing

• Functional testing
• Exploratory testing
• Release validation and sign-off
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Contract testing using Pact.
• Performance testing using JMeter or k6.
• Feature flag testing, preferably GrowthBook.
• Basic SQL knowledge.
• Experience with AI-assisted testing tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar platforms.
• Experience leveraging AI for test generation, framework maintenance, and test data creation.
• Experience testing React Native applications.
