About the Job

As a QA Engineer (Manual & Automation) in our IDrive Enterprise Backup Engine team, you will drive the quality assurance of the Command Line Interface (CLI) application through comprehensive manual testing and scalable automation frameworks. You will bring proficient knowledge of macOS and Linux operating systems, paired with strong expertise in Python and Pytest.

In this role, you will develop robust end-to-end automated tests, validate CLI behavior across different environments, and build modular, reliable testing frameworks. You will focus on test coverage, workflow optimization, integration testing, and defect management to ensure the applications are stable and reliable.

What you will be doing:

Test Automation & E2E Testing

• Develop robust end-to-end (E2E) automated tests for CLI applications.
• Validate CLI tools, standard outputs and errors, and exit codes from a real user's perspective.
• Test command arguments, piped inputs, and standard output/error parsing.
• Build scalable automation frameworks using Python and Pytest.

Test Framework Architecture & Integration

• Design core testing architecture using principles such as Dependency Injection (DI) to keep tests fast, modular, and fully isolated.
• Implement and manage Testcontainers to automatically spin up and tear down real external services, including databases and storage systems, for high-fidelity, repeatable integration tests.
• Enforce strict cleanup policies using Pytest fixtures or Go's t.Cleanup(), as applicable, to ensure temporary resources are reliably removed after every test run.

Manual & Functional Testing

• Execute comprehensive manual test passes covering complex edge cases and positive and negative scenarios.
• Validate CLI application usability across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
• Perform exploratory testing and verify application behavior under different conditions.

Test Optimization & CI/CD

• Optimize the overall testing workflow for execution speed.
• Enforce code coverage standards of 80% or higher within CI/CD pipelines.

Defect Management & Quality Assurance

• Identify, document, and track software defects.
• Collaborate closely with developers to ensure timely issue resolution and verify fixes in target environments.
• Apply regression testing to validate changes and prevent existing functionality from breaking.

What we expect from you:

• 4+ years of professional QA experience in manual and automation testing.
• Proficient knowledge of macOS and Linux distributions.
• Strong shell scripting experience with Bash or Zsh.
• Understanding of filesystem architecture, user permissions, and environment variable management.
• Strong expertise in Python and Pytest, including extensive use of fixtures and parameterization.
• Deep experience with CLI and subprocess validation, including command arguments, piped inputs, and standard output/error parsing.
• Deep knowledge of unittest.mock and Dependency Injection (DI) patterns.
• Proven experience integrating test suites with Docker and the Testcontainers Python SDK.
• Strong understanding of manual test case design, boundary value analysis, exploratory testing, and negative testing techniques.
• Strong understanding of test design, regression testing, and defect management.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech.) from a recognized university preferred.

Good to have:

• Experience in cross-platform CLI testing.
• Strong knowledge of Python or Go automation.
• Knowledge of enterprise backup solutions.
