About IDrive Software

IDrive is a leading provider of secure and scalable cloud backup, S3-compatible object storage, and remote access solutions. Trusted by over 5 million users worldwide, we empower individuals and businesses to protect, access, and manage their data with high-performance tools built for speed, reliability, and security.

IDrive 360 Enterprise Disk Image Backup is an agent-based, centrally managed enterprise backup and recovery solution for Windows systems. An agent installed on each protected machine discovers its disks and volumes and creates complete disk images, including the operating system, installed applications, system configuration, partition layout, and user data. It enables IT administrators to recover an entire machine, individual disks, or selected volumes following hardware failure, operating-system corruption, ransomware, or data loss.

About the Job

As a Senior QA Engineer (Manual & Automation), you will take end-to-end quality ownership of the IDrive 360 Enterprise Disk Image Backup and Recovery application. You will bring strong experience in manual testing, test automation, performance testing, and failure analysis across storage, databases, networking, cloud services, and Windows environments.

In this role, you will design real-world test scenarios, investigate complex issues, and build reliable automated regression tests to validate backup and restore workflows. You will focus on data integrity, system performance, scalability, and failure recovery to ensure the product is stable, reliable, and production-ready.

What you will be doing:

Test Strategy & Planning

  • Own the overall quality strategy for the DiskImage product.
  • Prepare test plans, test scenarios, acceptance criteria, and release-validation checklists.
  • Test full, incremental, volume, disk, system, and entire-machine backup workflows.
  • Validate file-level, volume-level, complete-disk, and bootable restore operations.
  • Verify restored data using file hashes, metadata comparisons, filesystem validation, and boot testing.

Functional & Data Integrity Testing

  • Design tests for file creation, modification, deletion, rename, movement, copy, and metadata changes.
  • Validate backups involving millions of files, multi-terabyte volumes, large and small files, sparse files, and mixed workloads under different storage & network conditions.
  • Test local and cloud-based repositories under different network and storage conditions.
  • Verify deduplication, compression, encryption, incremental-change detection, and storage-consumption results.
  • Test cache deletion, missing metadata, damaged indexes, incomplete recovery points, and other recovery scenarios.

Test Automation & Regression Testing

  • Build and maintain automated functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end test suites.
  • Automate CLI, Windows service, API, configuration, scheduling, and recovery workflows.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD and release pipelines.
  • Maintain test environments, test datasets, virtual machines, automation scripts, and reusable workload generators.

Performance & Scalability Testing

  • Perform performance, scalability, endurance, stress, and resource-utilization testing.
  • Measure backup and restore duration, disk throughput, network utilization, CPU usage, memory consumption, and repository growth.
  • Establish repeatable performance baselines and detect regressions between builds.

Failure & Recovery Testing

  • Test interrupted backups, application crashes, system restarts, network failures, disk errors, repository failures, and low-resource conditions.
  • Validate retry, cancellation, fallback, resume, cleanup, and recovery behavior.
  • Investigate failures using application logs, Windows Event Viewer, performance metrics, crash dumps, and diagnostic tools.
  • Validate Windows-version, filesystem, disk-layout, and hardware compatibility.

Defect Analysis & Quality Assurance

  • Reproduce customer-reported issues and provide developers with clear evidence and reliable reproduction steps.
  • Collaborate with developers to identify root causes and verify fixes without introducing regressions.
  • Track defects, assess release risk, and provide evidence-based release recommendations.
  • Document testing procedures, known limitations, performance results, and release-quality reports.

AI-Assisted Testing & Collaboration

  • Use AI-assisted tools responsibly for test generation, log analysis, scripting, documentation, and failure investigation.
  • Validate AI-generated test cases and scripts instead of relying on them without verification.
  • Collaborate with developers to identify root causes and verify fixes without introducing regressions.

What we expect from you:

  • 6+ years of professional software-testing or quality-engineering experience.
  • Strong experience in functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks.
  • Programming or scripting experience with Go, Python, PowerShell, C#, Java, or a similar language.
  • Strong Windows testing and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience testing Windows services, CLI applications, background processes, and desktop applications.
  • Strong understanding of software-testing methodologies, defect lifecycle, risk-based testing, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience testing data-intensive, storage, database, networking, cloud, or infrastructure products.
  • Experience with performance, load, stress, scalability, and endurance testing.
  • Ability to monitor and interpret CPU, memory, disk I/O, IOPS, latency, and network-throughput measurements.
  • Experience with SQL databases, preferably SQLite, for validating application metadata and state.
  • Experience with S3-compatible storage, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, or similar object-storage systems.
  • Experience validating data integrity using checksums, hashes, file comparisons, and metadata verification.
  • Familiarity with virtual machines, disk images, partitions, filesystems, and operating-system recovery.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, source control, automated builds, and test-reporting tools.
  • Ability to create large and repeatable datasets for performance and scalability testing.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to isolate failures across application, operating-system, storage, and network layers.
  • Ability to communicate defects using clear reproduction steps, supporting logs, expected results, and actual results.
  • Practical experience using LLM-based tools for test-case generation, automation scripting, log analysis, and documentation.
  • Ability to validate AI-generated test cases and scripts rather than relying on them without verification.
  • Awareness of privacy and security risks when using proprietary logs, source code, or customer data with AI tools.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech.) from a recognized university preferred.

Good to have:

  • Experience testing backup, disaster-recovery, storage, filesystem, virtualization, or security products.
  • Knowledge of Windows VSS, NTFS, raw-disk access, or change tracking.
  • Experience with Windows driver or kernel-level testing.
