QA Engineer
Summary
QA Engineer at Lower, a fintech mortgage lender, focused on test automation: building and maintaining automated end-to-end web and API tests (Playwright/TypeScript, Postman), expanding regression coverage, integrating tests into CI/CD, and partnering with engineering, product, and design. Hybrid role in Columbus, OH (preferred) or Austin, TX.
- Develop and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright and TypeScript.
- Build automated test cases using established frameworks, patterns, and quality engineering standards.
- Translate product requirements, acceptance criteria, and user workflows into effective automated test coverage.
- Expand and maintain regression, smoke, integration, and release-validation test suites.
- Build and maintain automated API tests using Postman and code-based testing approaches.
- Execute automated test suites, investigate failures, and distinguish product defects from test or environment issues.
- Help ensure automated tests remain reliable, maintainable, and useful as our applications evolve.
- Partner with QA, SDET, software engineers, Product, and Design to understand new features, requirements, and expected application behavior.
- Participate in feature planning and identify testing scenarios, edge cases, and potential risks before development is complete.
- Develop and document test plans for new features and releases.
- Perform exploratory and manual testing when automation is not the appropriate solution.
- Validate fixes and ensure defects are appropriately covered by regression testing.
- Help integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.
- Identify gaps in automated test coverage and help prioritize opportunities for additional automation.
- Monitor automated test results and troubleshoot flaky or unreliable tests.
- Reproduce and document defects with clear steps and technical context for engineering teams.
- Support investigation of production issues and help create test coverage to prevent regressions.
- Identify application areas with recurring defects or higher quality risk.
- Become an expert in the expected behavior of Lower’s mortgage applications and customer workflows.
- Work with business and product stakeholders to validate critical financial calculations and mortgage workflows where accuracy is essential.
- Collaborate with QA, SDET, and engineering teams to improve automation patterns, testing practices, and overall test effectiveness.
- Provide feedback on automation frameworks and tooling based on day-to-day usage.
- Look for opportunities to replace repetitive manual testing with reliable automation.
- Explore AI-assisted testing tools and workflows that can improve test creation, maintenance, and coverage.
- Contribute to a culture where quality is a shared responsibility across engineering teams.
Who you are:
- 2+ years of experience in QA Engineering, QA Automation, Software Testing, or a similar role.
- Hands-on experience writing and maintaining automated tests for modern web applications.
- Hands-on experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or a similar browser automation framework.
- Experience using JavaScript or TypeScript to write and maintain automated tests.
- Experience testing REST APIs using Postman or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of testing fundamentals, including functional, regression, integration, smoke, and exploratory testing.
- Ability to translate product requirements and user workflows into clear test scenarios and automated test cases.
- Experience investigating failed automated tests and troubleshooting application, test, data, or environment issues.
- Comfortable working closely with software engineers and understanding application behavior across frontend, backend, and API layers.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to think through edge cases and unexpected user behavior.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when documenting defects and collaborating with technical teams.
- Hands-on experience specifically with Playwright and TypeScript.
- Experience integrating or executing automated tests through CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with database validation and SQL.
- Experience with performance or load testing.
- Experience with accessibility testing.
- Experience testing complex financial calculations or transactional workflows.
