General Purpose of the Position:
The Rental Service Manager is responsible for supporting the preparation, maintenance, and readiness of TMH Midsouth’s rental fleet. This role oversees internal technicians working on company-owned equipment, ensuring operations are efficient, consistent, and cost-effective, while partnering closely with Rental Operations leadership to prepare equipment for deployment and sale. Operating as a cost-of-goods function, the role focuses on improving efficiency and reducing the cost to maintain and prepare fleet assets.
Reporting to the Sr. Manager-Rental Operations, the Rental Service Manager will travel across locations to support technicians, inspect equipment, and enforce standardized maintenance practices, while also working in the field to promote safety, productivity, and consistent execution of service standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Lead internal service operations supporting rental fleet readiness and maintenance
• Provide leadership and direction to internal technicians working on company-owned equipment
• Travel across locations to ensure consistent maintenance standards and operational execution
• Drive accountability and operational discipline within internal maintenance processes
• Manage and coordinate internal technician workforce across multiple locations
• Oversee technician scheduling, workload distribution, and resource allocation
• Ensure technicians are equipped with necessary tools, vehicles, uniforms, training, and safety equipment
• Support technician development through coaching, training, and performance management
• Reinforce best practices through hands-on support in both shop and field environments
• Identify and implement workflow improvements to increase technician productivity
• Manage internal service operations with a focus on cost control and efficiency
• Analyze and reduce labor hours, parts usage, and overall maintenance costs
• Monitor repair expenses and partner with leadership to improve cost performance
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase turnaround speed and reduce cost per unit
• Support rental fleet readiness goals, including maintaining target availability levels
• Partner with Rental Operations to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime
• Improve repair cycle times to ensure faster equipment availability
• Ensure accurate documentation of equipment condition and damage throughout the rental lifecycle
• Support recovery of customer-caused damage through proper documentation and billing
• Establish and enforce standardized maintenance practices across all locations
• Monitor field operations to ensure safety, consistency, and efficient execution of service work
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
• 2+ years of experience in heavy equipment, material handling, or fleet service operations.
• Strong mechanical and diagnostic knowledge of material handling equipment.
• Experience supporting technicians or coordinating service operations.
