Retail Regional Training Manager
The Retail Regional Training Manager strengthens store performance by developing and training retail management teams across assigned locations. This role provides hands-on, store-based training and coaching in retail operations, including production, pricing, merchandising, customer and donor service, safety, and overall operational execution. The Regional Training Manager partners with District Managers and Retail leadership to establish training priorities, reinforce consistent execution of Goodwill Retail Services standards, and prepare management teams to independently sustain operational expectations following the training assignment. Frequent local travel to Goodwill SoCal retail locations in the Greater Los Angeles area required.
What You'll do:
Training & Management Development
Provides hands-on training and coaching to store management teams across assigned retail locations on retail operations which includes production, pricing, merchandising, sales, customer and donor service, payroll, safety, asset protection, and other established standards.
Conducts store-based training assignments, generally lasting one to two weeks, based on operational and management development needs.
Trains managers to understand financial and operational metrics such as sales, production, payroll, productivity, customer service, and other performance indicators to improve store results.
Provides coaching and leadership skills to managers including clear communication, prioritization, constructive feedback and accountability.
Supports the onboarding and development of new and internally promoted Store Managers and other retail management Ambassadors.
Operational Assessment & Performance Improvement
Assesses store operations and management practices to identify training, knowledge, skill, and execution gaps and recommended action steps.
Evaluates management progress and provides District Managers with feedback on strengths, development needs, and recommended follow-up actions.
Identifies recurring operational and training gaps across locations and recommends training or process improvements to Retail leadership.
Conducts follow-up assessments and coaching to determine whether training has been successfully applied and improvements are sustained.
Training Development & Documentation
Partners with Retail leadership, Learning & Development, and subject matter experts to ensure training materials and SOPs are accurate, current, and aligned with operational standards.
Uses store observations, management feedback, performance results, and operational changes to continuously improve training content and resources.
Travel & Organizational Responsibilities
Attends meetings, training sessions, and Retail leadership activities as required.
Works a flexible schedule based on store training needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended assignments when necessary.
Travels frequently between retail locations in assigned area and may spend consecutive days or weeks working at an assigned store based on operational and training needs.
This job requires local travel (75%), a valid CA driver's license and state-required auto insurance. Driving records must be acceptable to company’s insurance vendor.
May occasionally support retail locations that have a vacant site management role.
What you bring:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Training, or related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressive retail management, operations, or training experience, including leading and developing retail teams.
Store Manager, multi-unit retail leadership, or retail training experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of retail operations, including sales, production, pricing, merchandising, customer service, payroll, safety, and asset protection.
Demonstrated experience training, coaching, and developing managers and management teams.
Strong business writing, facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
Strong business acumen with the ability to assess performance, identify training needs, and use operational metrics to improve results.
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to work independently and influence leaders without direct authority.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and training technology; LMS or e-learning experience and bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
