RF System Design Engineer

Open 26d

Summary

Designs and tests RF systems for aerospace and defence applications, including radar architectures, phased arrays, and T/R modules, using tools like HFSS and MATLAB.

We're Hiring: RF System Design Engineer

Full-Time | Core Team

LAT Aerospace | Defence

LAT Aerospace is developing next-generation aerospace systems from first principles. This includes a hybrid electric aircraft that takes off and lands within a space of a parking lot, Defence systems built from ground up and scalable Gas Turbine Engines.

Under the Defence program - we're building next-generation RF sensing - persistent, all-weather detection and tracking, fielded in months, not years. The challenge belongs to the RF chain: getting clean, wide-dynamic-range signal off the array so small, slow targets can be pulled out of clutter on deployable hardware. You'll own the chain from antenna to digitized samples, prototyping on SDRs so an idea goes from model to over-the-air in days. Because our architecture is software-defined, every improvement you make ships as capability.

What you'll do

  • Own the end-to-end RF architecture: frequency planning, link/power budgets, cascade, dynamic range, and spurious analysis

  • Design the waveform and receive chain - chirp synthesis, LO generation, receiver lineup - driving phase-noise, linearity, and isolation to component level

  • Architect a software-defined approach: reconfigurable waveforms, sampling-friendly front-ends, clean RF-digital partitioning

  • Design and bring up T/R modules, RF front-ends, and antennas at element and array level - sidelobe control, pattern measurement

  • Define and execute multi-channel amplitude/phase calibration, from factory alignment to field

  • Simulate, fabricate, measure, correlate, iterate - validate against hardware relentlessly

  • Plan and run lab and field test campaigns through live target-tracking trials

  • Harden for thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC, and document to production-grade standards

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on RF system design in radar/defence electronics - firm requirement; telecom/5G-only will not qualify

  • At least one complete RF system taken from architecture through hardware to field testing

  • FMCW chain, phased-array/AESA design, and software-defined radar concepts

  • Antenna design at element and array level; microwave design at X, Ku, or Ka band

  • RF architecture analysis: link budget, cascade, frequency planning, spur charts, phase-noise budgeting

  • EM simulation (HFSS, CST, FEKO, AWR) and circuit/system simulation (ADS, Microwave Office, SystemVue)

  • Hands-on RF lab: VNA, spectrum analyzer, signal generators, phase-noise, power meters

  • Scripting for analysis and automation: MATLAB or Python

  • Eager to learn - treats "I haven't done this before" as a starting point, not a boundary

Why LAT?

  • Core team opportunity at a high-conviction deep-tech startup

  • Real hardware, real field tests, real impact

  • Build sovereign defence technology from the ground up in India
