Risk Portafolio Manager
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Risk Portfolio Manager based in Netherlands.
We are seeking an experienced Risk Portfolio Manager to oversee credit portfolio performance and strengthen risk management across a growing fintech environment. In this role, you will take ownership of portfolio monitoring, credit underwriting, and profitability analysis, using data-driven insights to guide strategic business decisions. You will evaluate high-value merchant credit facilities at scale, identify emerging risks, and optimize portfolio performance through quantitative analysis. Working closely with business stakeholders, you will translate complex data into actionable recommendations and clear presentations. You will also automate key performance indicators and build robust monitoring processes to support sustainable growth. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact within a fast-paced, international environment focused on expanding access to innovative financial solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
Accountabilities:
- Manage credit portfolio performance: Monitor portfolio vintages, losses, originations, non-performing loans (NPLs) by cohort, and overall profitability to maintain a comprehensive view of credit risk and portfolio health.
- Evaluate and underwrite high-value credit facilities: Assess merchant credit facilities starting at USD 100,000–200,000 and above, developing scalable approaches to evaluate multiple exposures efficiently rather than relying solely on individual case reviews.
- Define and track key risk metrics: Establish and monitor performance indicators related to credit losses, portfolio yield, profitability, portfolio composition, and overall credit quality.
- Conduct hands-on data analysis: Independently extract, structure, and analyze portfolio data using SQL and, where applicable, Python to uncover trends, identify anomalies, and support informed decision-making.
- Apply quantitative and statistical reasoning: Interpret portfolio data, assess risk patterns, and use statistical principles to evaluate portfolio performance and support credit risk decisions.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders: Work closely with commercial and business teams, contribute to client interactions when needed, and align portfolio management decisions with broader business objectives.
- Communicate insights effectively: Turn complex analyses into clear findings, reports, and presentations for stakeholders and wider audiences.
- Automate portfolio monitoring: Develop and improve automated processes for tracking key portfolio indicators, increasing efficiency, consistency, and visibility into credit performance.
Requirements:
- Relevant professional experience: Approximately seven years of experience in credit risk, lending, portfolio management, business analytics, or a lending institution, with substantial hands-on exposure to credit products.
- Financial services background: Experience in a fintech, bank, payment processor, point-of-sale (POS) provider, or another financial services organization, with direct involvement in lending or credit activities.
- Credit underwriting expertise: Practical experience evaluating credit exposures, ideally involving high-value merchant facilities, with the ability to assess portfolios at scale rather than relying exclusively on manual, case-by-case underwriting.
- Strong technical and analytical skills: Proficiency in SQL and/or Python, particularly for independently extracting, organizing, and analyzing large datasets. Hands-on data analysis is a core requirement for this position.
- Statistical and data literacy: A solid understanding of statistical fundamentals, quantitative analysis, and model interpretation. Building predictive models is not essential, but the ability to interpret analytical outputs and draw sound conclusions is important.
- Business and communication skills: The ability to translate quantitative findings into practical recommendations, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and collaborate across business functions.
- Adaptability and ownership: A proactive, analytical mindset and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving, startup-style environment where priorities evolve and independent problem-solving is valued.
- International collaboration: Experience working with teams across different time zones and cultural contexts, particularly in the United States or Latin America, is a strong advantage.
- Relevant additional experience: Candidates with corporate or business-to-business (B2B) card underwriting experience are encouraged to apply, especially those who have managed high credit limits, such as USD 1 million or more. Candidates from traditional banking and large financial institutions are also welcome if they bring relevant credit expertise and adaptability.
- AI-enabled working methods: Familiarity with AI-powered tools is an advantage, particularly when used to improve analytical efficiency. Strong foundational knowledge and sound judgment remain the priorities.
Benefits:
- Meaningful impact: Join a mission-driven fintech working to expand access to financial solutions for small and medium-sized businesses across Latin America.
- Ownership and autonomy: Take responsibility for critical credit portfolio decisions and contribute directly to business performance and sustainable growth.
- Growth-oriented environment: Work in a fast-paced organization with opportunities to influence processes, strengthen risk capabilities, and help scale operations across multiple markets.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with talented professionals across business, risk, and other functions in an international working environment.
- Complex and innovative challenges: Gain exposure to embedded finance, evolving regulatory requirements, and sophisticated credit risk management practices.
- Long-term incentive opportunity: Eligible team members may participate in a performance-based phantom share program designed to align individual contributions with long-term business value creation.
- Remote working arrangement: The position is advertised as remote, with candidates based in Europe considered. Specific working arrangements and eligible locations are subject to confirmation during the recruitment process.
