Mid-Columbia Bus Company is hiring a dispatcher to maintain daily communications with location managers, customers, and drivers. The dispatcher will communicate and schedule trips with drivers for dispatch, coordinate all bus movements while actively participating in the positive team environment overseen by the Location Manager.


Key Responsibilities
  • Routing & Scheduling
    • Develop and maintain bus routes using routing software and district guidelines.
    • Adjust routes for efficiency, safety, and compliance with state and local regulations.
    • Update routes for new students, address changes, and special transportation needs.
  • Dispatching
    • Assign drivers and buses to scheduled routes and trips.
    • Monitor real-time operations and respond to delays, breakdowns, or emergencies.
    • Communicate route changes and instructions to drivers promptly.
  • Customer Service & Communication
    • Serve as a contact for drivers, school staff, and parents regarding transportation issues.
    • Handle inquiries and resolve complaints professionally and efficiently.
    • Schedule Charter business and assess what is needed for those charters
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure adherence to DOT school bus safety standards and transportation policies.
    • Maintain accurate records of routes, driver assignments, and incident reports.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on routing efficiency and performance.
    • Prepare, review, and submitting billing requests.
    • Assist with driver scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll verification as needed.
  • Qualifications
    • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Experience in transportation, logistics, or school bus operations.
    • Proficiency with routing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
Physical & Work Conditions
  • Office environment with occasional field visits.
  • Ability to work flexible hours during peak school transportation time

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Within 6 months of being hired obtain a complete understanding of State rules and regulations governing the operation of school buses and school bus drivers.
  • Intermediate level computer proficiency in Microsoft Software including Word, and Excel.
