The Syracuse VA Medical Center has 1 vacancy for a Social Worker (Program Coordinator) in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder department. The incumbent conducts studies, coordinates administrative operations, and ensures effective health care delivery throughout the SCI/D Center. The incumbent manages the daily operation of the program, develops policies and procedures for the program operation and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN and national use.

Reviews all data, subjective and objective, and makes a clinical assessment, identifying needs and strengths. Uses advanced clinical training, insight, and experience to interpret data and to identify viable treatment options. Incorporates complex multiple causations in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges. Provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with whom may have the following: Polytrauma injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairments, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, and other serious neurological disorders, and psychosocial problems in living. Promote communication and interactions among medical, nursing, and social work team members, patients and their families and caregivers to facilitate the treatment process. Responsible for screening and consultation of eligible veterans. Identify community resources within the Syracuse VA service area such SCI treatment and rehabilitation, prosthetic services, local peer counseling programs or groups, community services for the disabled, and other staff to effectively coordinate and manage care. Provides consultation to other staff professionals to promote and preserve therapeutic environment for individual patients. Oversee the daily operations of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operations, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. Reports including labor mapping, encounter and consults monitoring, clinic development and operations, equipment management. Provides analysis and evaluation of clinical program data and computerized programs to identify system-wide trends and needs to enhance the quality of service. Responsible for clinical programming and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN and national use. Provide leadership, direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing professional development and education programs for staff. Initiate and conduct a variety of program or service audits and complete designated clinical practice audits and reports, including productivity assessments. Oversee program operations and evaluations, prepare site accreditation presentations, identify areas of improvement, gather relevant data, assess the data, develop, and implement ideas for improvement and evaluate efficacy of improvements efforts. Responsible for SCI&D Performance Measures and Monitors and associated benchmarks, regular reporting to be provided to leadership through local committee structures. Provide clinical practice guidance for other social workers and/or assist with daily operations which may include consult management, oversight of time and leave requests, managing coverage as needed during staff absences - with the approval of the ACOS of SCI/D. Is able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of software applications for drafting documents and data management as well as other computer systems in use by the VHA. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
