Job Summary:
The Scientific IT Officer (SITO) manages daily IT support and strategic oversight of scientific hardware and software. The role involves project coordination, technology evaluation, compliance management, and continuous improvement of IT asset strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, deploy, and track scientific IT hardware assets and software licenses to ensure compliance with vendor contracts and licensing terms
- Design, implement, and improve processes for managing scientific software and hardware assets
- Maintain accurate inventory records of scientific IT assets, including dependencies and attributes, ensuring teams update modifications, withdrawals, and replacements
- Manage license compliance audits and respond to software vendor requests effectively
- Oversee the full lifecycle and provide technical support for scientific IT hardware and software from procurement to decommissioning
- Apply continuous improvement methods to optimize technology spending strategies
- Verify scientific IT software assets against licensing contracts and conduct hardware inventory checks, initiating corrective actions as needed
- Lead or assist in endpoint projects by coordinating stakeholders and ensuring project completion with proper documentation
- Provide level 2 endpoint IT support, including onboarding, offboarding, technology refresh, OS patching, and upgrades for funded entities
- Generate and distribute reports on scientific IT asset compliance and status, including trend analysis
- Perform additional assignments as required
Requirements:
- Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in endpoint support and project management
- Proficient in providing hands-on technical support across Windows, Linux, Mac OS, and iPad environments
- Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced, multi-tasking environments
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
- Effective communication and writing skills
- This is a Fixed Term Contract position.
