Summary

Designs high-speed thin-film lithium niobate modulators for next-gen communications systems, collaborating with teams on RF modeling, layout, and packaging while using photonics and RF simulation tools.

Designer/Scientist for Silicon Photonics Department

As part of NSTIC’s Silicon Photonics Department, the candidate will be working on the design of high-speed modulators. You will work closely with an excellent multidisciplinary team involving photonics, semiconductor process, and fab operation to realize next-generation photonic integrated chips using our industry-grade fabrication facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of high-speed thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) modulators aiming for next-generation communications systems up to 400 G/lane.
  • Perform RF modelling of electrodes including impedance matching, velocity matching and microwave loss.
  • Co-work with EIC driver design and system packaging team to optimize TFLN modulators and packaging parasitics.
  • Drive the layout and design rule definition for 8-inch/12-inch wafer platforms, ensuring designs are robust for PDK-level repeatability.Data analysis and documentation.
  • Preparation of technical presentations and papers for internal meetings, as well as conferences and journals.
  • Collaborate with project team to ensure quality and on-time delivery for various projects.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Integrated Photonics, Opto-electronics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven track record in high-speed electro-optic (EO) modulator design. Deep understanding of the TFLN material platform (LNOI) is highly preferred.
  • Experience in simulation software such as Keysight ADS or Cadence for interfacing with driver circuits is a plus.
  • Proficiency in photonics simulation tools (Ansys Lumerical) and RF simulation tools (Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS) for circuit-level analysis.
  • Strong communication and ability to work well in a large team.
  • Strong self-motivation and interest in the next-generation photonics technology development.
  • Industry experience and awareness is a plus.
