Seasonal Preservation Worker

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of preservation trade work needed to build, maintain, restore, and/or preserve historic structures and landscapes. Such structures and landscapes include but are not limited to historic buildings, monuments, memorials, statues, markers, signs, tablets, artillery pieces, etc. As a Preservation Worker, the incumbent is required to adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

As a Preservation Worker, you will perform the following duties: Performs a variety of preservation trade work needed to build, maintain, restore, and/or preserve historic structures and landscapes. Plasters surfaces in historic buildings, and/or homes and completes basic finishing work. Performs plastering, roofing, painting, carpentry, sandblasting, preservation services, and motor vehicle operations. Removes old roofing in preparation for repair, assist in repairing and installing roofs, and operate an asphalt kettle. Applies various coating materials (e.g., paints, varnishes, and shellacs) with brushes, rollers, spray guns. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies wood, composite, and wood substitute items. Performs laborer and custodial working duties such as digging ditches, sweeping, cleaning work areas and maintaining tools and workshop area. Operates motor vehicles to transport passengers, supplies, materials, equipment, and/or tools, or to tow equipment throughout rural or urban areas. Purchases equipment, materials, and supplies for historic preservation related work.

Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Work Schedule: You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
