Position Summary
NGP is seeking a Senior Analyst, Investments to evaluate investment opportunities, support deal execution, assist with portfolio company matters, and drive internal initiatives.
Working as part of small transaction teams, this individual will take meaningful ownership of financial modeling, due diligence, market research, business analysis, and investment materials, while building relationships and judgment needed to take on greater responsibility over time. They will synthesize complex information, identify key opportunities and risks, and develop clear insights that inform the firm’s investment decisions.
The ideal candidate is analytical, intellectually curious, highly organized, and comfortable owning important workstreams in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment. This is an opportunity to develop as an investor while working alongside accomplished entrepreneurs, principals, and investors across a variety of industries.
This is a full-time, salaried position based in Chicago, IL. Compensation decisions are tailored based on skills and experience and will be discussed during the screening process.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing & Business Development
- Maintain awareness of industry coverage and potential conflicts across the firm’s relationships and pipeline.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and organized deal-tracking data to support pipeline management and the team’s ongoing deal review process.
Deal Execution
- Evaluate prospective investments through financial, commercial, operational, and industry analysis.
- Build acquisition and operating models; perform valuation, return, scenario, and sensitivity analyses.
- Own discrete due diligence workstreams to identify key business drivers, opportunities, and risks.
- Synthesize diligence findings into clear conclusions and prepare investment memoranda, one-pagers, and other deal materials.
- Support preparation and communication for management meetings and vendor or service provider calls.
- Leverage AI or other tools to improve diligence efficiency, surface patterns, generate insights, and streamline workflows.
Portfolio Company Support
- Support portfolio companies with budgeting, performance analysis, and strategic initiatives.
- Assist with the evaluation and due diligence of add-on acquisitions.
- Develop analyses that help identify opportunities to improve growth, profitability, and operational performance.
Team & Firm Development
- Improve the Investments team’s analytical tools, templates, processes, and best practices.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and organized documentation across investment and portfolio workstreams.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Required Qualifications
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, corporate development, management consulting, credit, or a similar analytical role.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or another relevant field.
- Strong knowledge of corporate finance, accounting, valuation, and the M&A process, with demonstrated acquisition modeling and company analysis experience.
- Direct, hands-on experience supporting at least two transactions from initial evaluation through closing, working alongside senior deal team members.
- Ability to synthesize financial and qualitative information into clear, decision-useful conclusions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Chicago-based or willing to relocate; this is an in-office role.
- Comfortable with up to 10-15% of travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Investment banking or buy-side experience supporting lower-middle market transactions from evaluation through closing.
- Experience with proprietary or off-market deal sourcing and execution.
- Exposure to founder-led businesses, portfolio company initiatives, or add-on acquisitions.
- Strong business judgment, intellectual curiosity, and creative problem-solving skills.
