Summary
Senior Backend Engineer (contract, hybrid in Lagos) building the core systems for 247Bet — wallet, betting engine, settlement, and live betting. Day-to-day is C#/.NET 8+ services, Kafka event-driven workflows, PostgreSQL and Redis, plus third-party integrations (payments, odds feeds, KYC) for real-money, transaction-critical systems.

About the Role
247 Labs Limited is seeking experienced Senior Backend Engineers to build and maintain the core systems powering 247Bet, including its wallet, betting engine, settlement, live betting, and social features. The role focuses on developing reliable, scalable, and secure backend services for real-money transactions and real-time activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services using C#/.NET 8+.
- Develop event-driven systems using Kafka for transaction-critical workflows.
- Build reliable transaction processes with idempotency, retry handling, and failure recovery.
- Manage and optimise PostgreSQL databases and Redis caching.
- Integrate third-party services, including payment gateways, odds feeds, KYC, and fraud-prevention platforms.
- Write well-tested, observable, production-ready code.
- Manage backend services through development, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and incident response.
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues.
- Collaborate with frontend and mobile engineers on API design.
- Mentor mid-level engineers and promote engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ backend engineering experience, with strong C#/.NET expertise.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, event-driven architecture, and data modelling.
- Hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
- Experience with Kafka or an equivalent message broker.
- Cloud experience, preferably AWS.
- Understanding of testing practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience building reliable, transaction-critical systems such as payment platforms, financial systems, or trading applications.
- Experience managing production systems and participating in incident response.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering and product teams while maintaining high engineering standards.
Additional Advantages
- Experience in sports betting, gaming, fintech, or high-transaction-volume platforms.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes/EKS and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns.
- Experience with Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tools.
- Experience with live betting, odds feeds, settlement systems, or trading integrations.
- Experience building technology products for African markets, particularly Nigeria.
