Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

We are looking for a senior backend engineer!

You bring a strong foundation in system design, data structures, and algorithms. You enjoy untangling problems with teammates and choosing pragmatic solutions that move the product forward. As a backend engineer on this team you will develop new and evolve existing features for listeners. You will design clear interfaces, dependable data flows, and resilient systems that ensure we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement scalable backend and data systems that power experiences across devices and markets.

• Design, develop and deploy backend services with a focus on high availability, low latency and scalability.

• Work closely with mobile engineers on the squad, other backend engineers and a Product Manager.

• Champion engineering best practices, sound architecture, and operational excellence with meaningful tests, SLIs and SLOs.

• Foster a collaborative culture built on shared ownership, constructive feedback, and continuous improvement.

Who You Are

• You have strong professional experience with Java for backend development. Additional tools and technologies such as gRPC, GCP, BigQuery and Bigtable are a plus.

• You have a strong foundation in system design, data structures, and algorithms.

• You enjoy thinking through problems with teammates and choosing pragmatic solutions that move the product forward.

• You care about quality and know what it takes to ship high-quality, well-tested, well-operated code.

• It is a plus if you have data engineering experience.

• It is a plus if you have experience with load testing and performance tuning.

• It is a plus if you have iOS or Android development experience.

• You are curious and customer-focused, and you thrive in an environment where engineers are empowered to solve meaningful problems with autonomy.
