Senior Backend Engineer

Mandatory Experience & Skills

Overall Experience

• 6+ years of backend/software engineering experience, minimum 3 years handson with Node.js/NestJS/Express.js.
• Strong experience building production-grade B2C systems at scale.
• Must have worked on applications with large user bases and high API/transaction volumes.
• Experience with systems where performance, reliability, scalability, and security are critical.
• Proven ability to own backend features endtoend: design, development, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting.
• Experience working with Agile product engineering teams: Product, Frontend, QA, DevOps, Cloud.

Backend Engineering & Microservices Mandatory

• Strong handson experience with Node.js, Express.js, and NestJS.
• Experience designing REST APIs, microservices, modular service architecture, and domaindriven structures.
• Strong experience in PostgreSQL and MongoDB, including schema design, indexing strategies, query optimisation, transactions, aggregation pipelines.
• Experience with Redis for caching, sessions, queues, and performance acceleration. • Experience building systems with JWT/OAuth2, authentication, authorization, RBAC. • Experience implementing secure coding practices, data validation, sanitisation, and API security.
• Experience integrating thirdparty APIs, SDKs, partners, and external services.
• Experience with message queues, async processing, and distributed patterns (SQS/SNS, event-driven flows).

AWS Cloud Mandatory

Hands-on experience with:

• ECS/Fargate
• API Gateway
• S3
• CloudWatch (logs, alerts, dashboards)
• IAM, VPC, private/public networking
• Load balancers, scaling groups

CI/CD, DevOps & Engineering Practices

• Strong experience with Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/Jenkins/GitLab).
• Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, contract tests).
• Experience with logging, monitoring, alerting, and production troubleshooting.
• Code reviews, backend design best practices, and maintaining high engineering standards.

Scale & B2C Experience (Critical Requirement)

Candidates must have experience working on large-scale consumer-facing systems, preferably with:

• Millions of users or large registered user bases.
• High daily/monthly active usage.
• High-volume API traffic and distributed microservices.
• Platforms requiring high availability, low latency, resilience, and strong fault tolerance.
• Experience handling production incidents, performing RCA, and improving platform reliability.

Candidates who have only worked on internal enterprise tools, small apps, prototypes, or low-scale systems should notbe considered.

Preferred Experience

The following would be advantageous:

• Experience with NestJS in large-scale production systems.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and streaming (Kafka/Kinesis/PubSub).
• Experience using AWS SQS/SNS, Step Functions, Lambda, or serverless patterns.
• Experience with API versioning, throttling, rate limiting, and gateway policies.
• Experience with CI/CD on AWS (CodePipeline, ECS blue/green deployment).
• Experience with performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Experience with domains such as wellness, insurance, fintech, ecommerce, or other highvolume B2C products.
• Experience with caching strategies, horizontal scaling, and distributed locks.
• Experience with security standards (OWASP, encryption, token-based auth).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and microservices using Node.js/NestJS.
• Build and optimise REST APIs for high-volume consumer traffic.• Work extensively with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis for schema design, queries, caching, and performance tuning.
• Deploy, monitor, and manage backend services on AWS (ECS, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch).
• Collaborate closely with Frontend, Product, QA, DevOps, Cloud teams.
• Implement secure coding standards, authentication flows, input validation, and API security.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform RCA, and implement permanent fixes to improve system reliability.
• Participate in architecture discussions, contribute to design decisions, and maintain high engineering quality.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, monitoring setup, and deployment automation.
• Take full ownership of backend modules from development to production support.
