Apexon is hiring a Senior Backend Python Developer in Toronto to build secure, scalable microservices for a core banking platform — designing REST APIs, optimizing performance, and owning initiatives end-to-end using Python, MySQL, RabbitMQ, and Docker, while mentoring junior engineers.
We're looking for a Senior Backend Python Developer to join a high-performing engineering team building secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions within a core banking platform.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, microservices, distributed systems, REST APIs, SQL/MySQL, messaging, and system design, with a proven ability to own large initiatives end-to-end.
5+ years of Software Development experience
RDBMS concepts – Transactions, Isolation Levels, Locking & Deadlocks
RabbitMQ or similar Message Brokers
Docker / Containerized Applications
Strong System Design & Technical Design experience
Nice to Have
- Cloud experience – AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Payroll Provider integrations
- Experience working on high-volume transaction processing systems
What You'll Do
- Design and develop scalable backend services and microservices
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs
- Own large initiatives from technical design through production delivery
- Create technical design specifications and contribute to architecture decisions
- Optimize application performance to meet SLAs
- Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and technical discussions
- Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
Degree must be from a Canadian or US university
5+ years of professional software development experience
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to independently own features and projects end-to-end
