Senior BI Developer - Daily rate contract

About the Role:

Talent Insights is partnering with a Sydney-based enterprise as they build out their analytics function and push towards self-serve reporting.

We're looking for someone who can sit with a stakeholder, translate what they actually need, build the underlying data model and ETL pipeline, validate the data is fit for purpose, then bring it to life in a dashboard. One person owning data through to story, not a hand-off between a data person and a viz person.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and shape them into a data and visualisation solution
  • Design and build ETL pipelines and data models across multiple source systems
  • Build star schema and medallion architecture models to support self-serve reporting
  • Validate and quality-check data before it reaches a dashboard
  • Build Power BI/Tableau dashboards that clearly tell the story behind the data
  • Write and optimise SQL, DAX and Power Query for performance at scale
  • Work autonomously, owning problems end-to-end rather than waiting for direction

Skills & Experience:

Must haves:

  • Strong hands-on ETL and data modelling experience
  • Deep, demonstrable Power BI development experience
  • Solid SQL and DAX skills
  • Hands-on Databricks experience
  • Self-driven with strong stakeholder management, comfortable running requirements conversations and owning the outcome.

Nice to have:

  • Python experience nice to have, not essential
  • A genuine passion for turning data into a clear, compelling story, not just building charts
  • Prior experience blending data engineering/modelling work with visualisation delivery, rather than working purely on one side of that line.
