Hourly-rate contract Senior BI Developer role in Christchurch (via recruiter Younity) for a large NZ organisation, working across the full BI lifecycle — ETL, data warehousing, data modelling, reporting and visualisation — hands-on with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric and Azure.
Our client is a large New Zealand organisation operating in a complex environment, with an ongoing focus on using data and technology to improve business performance. They’re continuing to invest in their data and analytics capability and are looking for an experienced Senior BI Developer to join them on an hourly rate contract.

You’ll be working across the Microsoft ecosystem, with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric and Azure all playing an important part in the environment. It’s a hands-on role where you’ll work closely with business and technical stakeholders to turn requirements into effective data and reporting solutions.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and developing ETL processes and data warehouse solutions
- Building and maintaining reporting and visualisation solutions using Power BI
- Working with Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies
- Developing data models to support reporting and analytics
- Gathering and analysing reporting requirements
- Translating business requirements into practical technical solutions
- Maintaining high standards around data quality
- Providing BI and analytics expertise across a range of projects
- Collaborating with SMEs, Project Managers, technical teams and external service providers
We’re looking for an experienced BI Developer who can get up to speed quickly and operate confidently within a complex enterprise environment.
You’ll bring:
- 5+ years’ experience across BI, data warehousing, ETL development, data modelling and reporting
- Strong hands-on Power BI experience
- Strong skills across Power Query and DAX
- Experience with the Microsoft BI stack, including SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS
- Experience working with Microsoft Fabric and Azure
- The ability to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Experience working within Agile environments and distributed teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Manufacturing industry experience would be an advantage
- SAP S/4HANA knowledge would also be beneficial
