Senior Business Analyst
NewBe an early applicantSummary
Senior Business Analyst at a Hobart-based technology consultancy, working client-facing to gather requirements, run discovery and design solutions across custom software projects and their RiskTeq risk-management SaaS platform, while bringing rigour to internal planning, testing, documentation and delivery processes.
Salary: $115,000 – $125,000 per year
About the role
Synateq is a Hobart-based technology consultancy that's spent more than 27 years delivering software for government, health, education and private-sector clients across Tasmania — and, increasingly, the mainland — alongside RiskTeq, our own risk management SaaS platform now supporting customer organisations across Australia and NZ. We're entering a new growth phase of that journey, and we're looking for a Senior Business Analyst to be a genuine driving force in it.
This is a client-facing role first — gathering and shaping requirements, running discovery, and helping design solutions across both our custom software and RiskTeq engagements — paired with a genuine mandate to bring enhanced structure and rigour to how the team plans and delivers internally.
Key responsibilities
Lead requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement across client engagements, translating business needs into clear, actionable specifications
Partner with the delivery team from discovery through to implementation, keeping engagements well-scoped, sequenced and moving
Bring rigour to how new releases are tested — working through how a change plays out across our different client environments and configurations before it ships, so nothing breaks in the field
Own documentation and knowledge capture as a discipline in its own right, so decisions and context outlast any one project or person
Bring a continuous-improvement mindset to everything you touch, leaving processes, documentation and team practice sharper than you found them
Support training and handover for clients and internal teams as new systems and processes are introduced
About you
5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst or in a closely related role in the ICT industry
A track record of carrying business analysis work from early discovery through to delivered outcome — not just documenting requirements handed to you
Strong grounding in business process mapping, data modelling and system design, and confidence with the standard BA toolkit — use cases, user stories, process and wireframe artefacts
The judgement and communication skills to work directly with senior stakeholders — including government and institutional clients — and translate cleanly between business need and technical delivery
Genuine comfort operating in a smaller, less rigid environment — you want to help build a practice, not just work inside one that's already built
Exposure to information security or quality management frameworks (ISO 27001 or similar) highly regarded, though not essential
A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Information Technology or a related field
Benefits
Real influence in shaping how business analysis supports Synateq's next phase of growth — playing a lead role as we scale our consulting practice and RiskTeq into new markets
Direct, regular exposure to leadership and to the strategic direction of the firm — not a role buried several layers down
A varied portfolio spanning established government and institutional clients and our own growing SaaS product, RiskTeq
Competitive remuneration, flexible working arrangements, and genuine support for professional development
A supportive, Hobart-based team culture, backed by health and wellbeing initiatives
About us
Synateq has been delivering business systems and custom software to government, health, education, utilities and private-sector clients since 1999. Alongside that consulting and development practice, we've built RiskTeq, a compliance, risk and safety management platform and we're investing in the people, processes and accreditations needed to grow it further. It's a genuinely exciting stage of the journey to join — come help shape it.
