Senior Cloud Engineer
Description
Salary: $170,000 + Superannuation
Our client is an established, profitable Australian SaaS business whose platform supports core operations across the insurance industry. As the business grows, they are building a more scalable and consistent AWS platform to support multiple customers and environments.
They are looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to help shape that platform, improve how applications are deployed and keep existing customer environments running reliably.
The opportunity
Working closely with the existing cloud engineering lead, you will contribute to technical decisions, influence the roadmap and take ownership of work from design through to implementation.
The platform supports a Java application across customer production, testing and development environments. The focus is on making those environments easier to deploy, operate and scale through automation, standardisation and sound engineering.
AWS and Kubernetes are central to the environment, including EKS Auto Mode. Practical Kubernetes experience is important, and experience gained on other Kubernetes platforms is relevant when combined with strong AWS capability.
What you will be doing
- Design, build and improve AWS infrastructure supporting a growing SaaS platform.
- Deploy and operate containerised applications using Kubernetes and Amazon EKS.
- Develop repeatable infrastructure and deployment processes across customer environments.
- Use infrastructure as code and automation to improve consistency and reduce manual work.
- Strengthen platform reliability, security, monitoring and operational support.
- Support existing production systems while contributing to the new platform.
- Work closely with software engineering and delivery teams to troubleshoot issues and onboard customers.
- Own agreed initiatives through to completion, contributing ideas and making technical decisions along the way.
What you will bring
- Strong hands-on experience building and operating production AWS infrastructure.
- Practical Kubernetes knowledge, including deploying applications, configuring resources and troubleshooting workloads.
- An understanding of how networking, identity, security, compute and application components work together.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform, and automated delivery pipelines.
- The ability to investigate production issues and balance planned improvements with customer priorities.
- Confidence working independently within a small team, with clear communication and a collaborative approach.
- A proactive approach to improving systems and following work through to completion.
- Experience supporting a SaaS product or growing software platform will be highly regarded, particularly where you have worked closely with developers and supported multiple production and non-production environments.
Why consider this role?
- Influence the technical direction of a platform as it evolves.
- Work across AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, automation and application operations.
- Join an established, profitable product business with a clear need to scale.
- Take meaningful ownership within a small cloud team, with room to contribute your ideas.
- See the direct impact of your work on developers, delivery teams and customers.
