Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) builds foundational Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies for a large-scale, distributed, multi-tenant cloud. Our customers rely on OCI to run critical workloads, and our mission is to provide secure, highly available, and high-performance cloud infrastructure.

The Virtual Cloud Networking (VCN) Dataplane team builds and operates the software-defined networking stack that powers OCI virtual networks and connectivity services. We deliver predictable performance, strong isolation, and high availability at cloud scale.

As a Software Engineer on the VCN Dataplane team, you will build and evolve the infrastructure, deployment automation, and operational systems that support our networking services. You will work across infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, distributed systems, observability, and network-focused services to deliver reliable production capabilities.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure automation, or IaaS service development.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and deployment.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency with Linux and Python automation.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, UDP, routing, packet flows, and network troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with the end-to-end packet-processing path, including packet reception, classification, processing, forwarding, filtering, and observability.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network and service issues using packet captures, flow logs, system logs, metrics, and dashboards.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, service reliability, and production operations.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering teams.

Preferred qualifications (Nice to have)

  • Experience with C or C++.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, containerization, and deploying or operating containerized services.
  • Experience with P4 programming and programmable data-plane concepts.
  • Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, Wireshark, tcpdump, and similar observability or packet-capture tools.
  • Experience with DPDK or high-performance packet processing.
  • Knowledge of DPUs/IPUs and network offload technologies, such as NVIDIA BlueField or AMD Pensando.
  • Experience building or operating highly available services in a public-cloud environment.

Level Consideration
Candidates with more extensive experience and demonstrated technical depth may be considered for a higher-level engineering position, including Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer, based on experience level, interview evaluation, role fit, and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and operate IaaS components and deployment workflows for OCI networking services.
  • Build and maintain Terraform-based infrastructure and deployment automation.
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines for reliable, repeatable, and safe software delivery.
  • Automate operational workflows using Python and Linux-based tooling.
  • Partner with dataplane, platform, and service teams to deliver highly available distributed systems.
  • Improve service observability through metrics, dashboards, alerts, and logging.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues involving deployments, infrastructure, network behavior, and service reliability.
  • Work with and understand end-to-end packet-processing paths in virtualized cloud-networking environments.
  • Contribute to AI-assisted or agentic automation where it improves engineering productivity, operations, or service intelligence.
