Make Your Mark: As a Senior Database Engineer at BlackLine, you will play a vital role in the performance, delivery, stability, and security of the databases we use, while continually driving forward improvements and optimisations at the database layer. You will be involved in the planning, development, and maintenance of the database, including troubleshooting issues, collaborating with other teams to define and build new features, optimize existing features, and collaborate in order to drive growth, improve controls and processes, and reduce overhead and complexity. You’ll Get To: As a Senior Data Engineer at Blackline Systems, Inc., you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support our financial automation solutions. You will work with large datasets, ensuring data quality, reliability, and accessibility for analytics and product development.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize large-scale data pipelines and ETL processes using various technologies and frameworks.
- Develop and maintain data warehouses, data lakes, and other data storage solutions.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate data solutions.
- Implement data governance, security, and quality best practices to ensure data integrity and compliance.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve data-related issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Mentor junior data engineers and contribute to the growth of the data engineering team.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and contribute to architectural decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on building and maintaining data pipelines.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services (e.g., S3, EC2, Redshift, Glue, Data Factory).
- Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT methodologies, and data modeling.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and data security principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
