As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, building and supporting cloud-based data solutions that enable trusted reporting, analytics and operational insights across the organisation.
Working within our Innovation and Digital team, you'll contribute to complex data initiatives, improve engineering standards, and ensure our data platforms remain reliable, secure and scalable. This is a permanent position and can be based in our Wellington or Auckland Office.
About the role
This is a hands-on senior technical role where you'll work closely with the Lead Data Engineer, Analytics Lead, technology teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions that support MAS's strategic and operational objectives. You'll take ownership of complex data engineering work from design through to implementation, support and continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing
Designing, building and optimising data pipelines and integration solutions.
Developing secure, scalable and supportable cloud-based data solutions.
Working with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into practical data solutions.
Supporting data quality, governance, privacy and security requirements.
Troubleshooting complex data platform issues and driving continuous improvement.
Providing technical guidance, code reviews and knowledge sharing across the team.
What you'll bring
Significant experience designing and delivering enterprise data solutions, integrations and data pipelines.
Strong SQL development, optimisation and troubleshooting capability.
Experience with cloud-based data platforms and modern data technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Google Cloud Platform or similar.
Experience using Python, Spark (PySpark/Spark SQL) and modern data transformation frameworks such as dbt.
Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modelling and modern data architecture principles.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
