Overview

As a Senior Data Engineer in Home Office Digital, you will design and lead complex data flows that connect operations with analytics and BI. You’ll enable accurate cloud cost attribution and financial transparency, working with finance and cloud platform teams to support recharge and dashboards. You’ll mentor juniors, shape service technology and data architecture, and collaborate with Data Science and Product Owners to meet business needs. The role offers exposure to large, diverse datasets and a path for continuous professional development in a mission-driven government environment.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze problems and develop innovative data solutions to root out underlying issues
  • Analyse and report on data analysis activities, supporting data engineers and stakeholders
  • Design and implement a data streaming service and ETL processes
  • Ensure successful delivery of data loads for analysts and scientists, troubleshooting as needed
  • Build and test data products and solutions across full development, test, and deployment lifecycles
  • Apply data modelling concepts to produce varied models across subjects and guide usage
Key requirements
  • Experience with finance processes and controls (ideally UK Government) and handling financial discrepancies
  • Strong understanding of financial governance, risk management, and internal controls
  • Experience in receipting and invoicing, P2P and O2C, and ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle)
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-technical and senior stakeholders
  • Delivery experience in data analysis, solution design and end-user reporting
  • Experience in IT programming and automation, ETL tools, databases, scheduling/orchestration, and public cloud technologies
  • Ability to manage and communicate with stakeholders about performance and analysis
