Senior Data Engineer — Platforms & Solutions
Summary
Senior Data Engineer joining Runibex's Data & AI practice to design and build end-to-end data platforms, pipelines, and integrations for customer projects across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments. Core stack: SQL, Python, ETL/ELT on AWS/Azure; Spark, Airflow, dbt, Kafka are pluses.
At Runibex, we help businesses solve complex challenges through technology, combining deep engineering expertise with a practical, hands-on approach. Across Cloud, Commerce, and Product Development, we design, build, and operate business-critical systems. As both a technology services provider and a software product company, we combine the expertise of managing critical systems with the innovative mindset of building new ones.
We believe great technology starts with understanding the bigger picture, making thoughtful decisions, and turning ideas into solutions that work in the real world and deliver meaningful business results.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who combines hands-on technical expertise with a big-picture mindset to design and build scalable, end-to-end data solutions. You'll join Runibex's growing Data & AI practice, helping shape our engineering capabilities and service offerings as we expand across the UK, Europe, and Türkiye.
This is not a role where you'll simply inherit a backlog. You'll help build the practice itself.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and deliver modern data platforms, pipelines, and integration solutions.
- Work across data engineering, analytics, and AI-enabling architectures, that eventually lead AI solution deployments.
- Take a holistic view of technology stacks, evaluating architectural alternatives and selecting the right combination of technologies for each problem.
- Build cloud-native solutions while designing for hybrid and on-premises environments when required.
- Translate business requirements into pragmatic, end-to-end technical architectures and working implementations.
- Take technical ownership of customer projects, from initial design through deployment and operation.
- Collaborate with customers on technical discovery, solution design, proof-of-concepts, and pre-sales activities.
- Help establish reusable architectures, engineering standards, and delivery practices.
- Support and mentor less experienced engineers, contributing to the growth of the team.
- Evaluate emerging technologies with an eye for both technical merit and practical business value.
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on experience in data engineering, including SQL, data modeling, ETL/ELT, and data integration.
- Experience building and operating production-grade data pipelines and platforms.
- Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and services, preferably AWS or Azure.
- Familiarity with modern data architectures, including data lakes, warehouses, and lakehouses.
- Practical experience with Python and relevant data processing technologies.
- Understanding of containerization, Linux, and infrastructure fundamentals, with the ability to reason about deploying data workloads outside managed cloud environments.
- Ability to see beyond individual tools and services, reason about architectural trade-offs, and design coherent systems across different technology stacks.
- Ability to make sound architectural decisions while remaining actively involved in implementation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to work in a small, evolving team.
- Good communication skills and professional proficiency in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time, including internationally.
Nice to Have
- Experience with technologies such as Spark, Airflow, Dagster, dbt, Kafka, or similar tools.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems, including ERP, SAP, or legacy data sources.
- Exposure to Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and automated deployment practices.
- Experience with analytical databases, real-time data processing, or AI/ML data infrastructure.
- Previous involvement in customer-facing technical discussions, solution design, or pre-sales.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading small technical initiatives.
What makes this opportunity different?
You'll be joining a new practice within an established technology company, combining the resources and customer relationships of Runibex with the opportunity to build something from an early stage.
This is an opportunity for substantial personal and professional growth.
You'll be exposed to diverse technical challenges, different industries, international customers, and decisions that go well beyond the boundaries of a conventional engineering role.
You'll have the space to develop not only as an engineer but also as an architect, a problem solver, a customer-facing professional, and potentially a future leader. Your ideas, initiative, and judgment will have a direct influence on how the practice evolves.
We value curiosity, independent thinking, continuous learning, and people who are willing to challenge assumptions, including their own.
As the practice grows, so will the opportunities to take on broader technical, commercial, and leadership responsibilities.
