Senior Data Engineer - remote

This is a fully remote opportunity for a technically strong Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges, working with modern Microsoft technologies, and engaging with clients and senior stakeholders.

About the Role

Youll be responsible for designing and delivering modern data solutions across the full data lifecycle, including data ingestion, transformation, modelling, analytics, governance, data quality and lifecycle management.

Youll work closely with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable, effective solutions.

The role offers a high degree of autonomy, with the opportunity to take ownership of technical decisions, contribute to solution architecture and act as a trusted technical advisor.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build modern data pipelines and data streams.
• Design and implement data warehouses and lakehouse platforms.
• Develop scalable ETL/ELT solutions.
• Work across the full data lifecycle from ingestion through to analytics, governance and data lifecycle management.
• Integrate and aggregate data across multiple business applications and data sources.
• Work with Customer Data Platforms and enterprise data environments.
• Apply modern data architecture patterns, including Medallion, Lambda and Event-Driven architectures .
• Develop analytical solutions using Power BI, DAX, Tabular models and Paginated Reports .
• Identify opportunities to leverage Microsoft Fabric and Azure analytics services .
• Support the planning, configuration and implementation of data platform services.
• Establish effective data quality, monitoring and metrics processes.
• Contribute to data governance initiatives, including Master Data Management (MDM) .
• Translate business requirements into appropriate technical solutions.
• Take ownership of solution design and technical delivery.
• Work with clients as a trusted technical advisor.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other team members.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Support project planning, progress reporting and delivery.

Technical Skills & Experience

Were looking for candidates with strong hands-on experience across modern data engineering technologies, ideally including:

• 2+ years' experience with ETL/ELT technologies.
• Strong SQL and T-SQL skills.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory / Data Factory Pipelines .
• Experience with Spark / Spark Notebooks .
• Experience with Databricks .
• Experience with SSAS and/or Tabular models .
• Strong Power BI and DAX experience.
• Experience with Paginated Reports .
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Azure and Synapse .
• Strong understanding of modern data architecture patterns.
• Experience with data warehouses and/or lakehouses.
• Strong understanding of data governance and data quality .
• Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) .
• Understanding of both OLTP and OLAP environments.

Consulting & Client Experience

As this is a senior-level role, youll also need strong consulting and stakeholder management skills.

Youll ideally have:

• 3+ years' experience working in a consulting environment.
• Experience working with senior stakeholders and management.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• The ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Commercial awareness around project budgets, timelines and resource allocation.
• The ability to identify opportunities and articulate business value.
• Strong stakeholder and client relationship skills.
• Experience influencing technical direction and decision-making.
• The ability to operate as a trusted advisor.
• Confidence presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
