Summary
Senior data engineer / tech lead in Melbourne building and optimising data pipelines and Amazon Redshift warehouse solutions for insurance reporting and analytics. Core tech: Redshift, SQL, ETL/ELT, AWS (S3, Glue), with mentoring and technical leadership duties.
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer Tech Lead with strong hands-on Amazon Redshift expertise and experience working within the insurance industry. You will lead technical data engineering initiatives, build and optimise data pipelines, and deliver reliable data solutions that support business reporting and analytics.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical capabilities with data modelling, performance optimisation and technical leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
- Develop and optimise Amazon Redshift queries, data structures and warehouse performance.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT processes and data integration workflows.
- Apply data modelling, data quality and governance best practices.
- Lead technical delivery, mentor engineers and collaborate with business stakeholders.
- Support insurance reporting, analytics and business data requirements.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong, hands-on commercial experience with Amazon Redshift.
- Proven experience in the insurance domain.
- Strong SQL, data warehousing and query performance optimisation skills.
- Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration solutions.
- Experience in technical leadership, mentoring or leading data engineering delivery.
- Experience with insurance claims data, claims reporting or claims analytics.
- Personal injury, CTP or workers compensation experience will be highly regarded but is not mandatory.
- Exposure to AWS services such as S3, Glue and other data integration tools.
