Senior Data Engineer X 2

Summary

Build and maintain data pipelines, integrate systems, and migrate data for a federal government department to enhance analytics capabilities.

A Federal Government Department is looking to engage 2 Data Engineers to support the delivery of a range of solutions centred around data migration, data integration, data pipelines and enhancing the departments analytics capabilities.


Contract Details:

  • Initial 12 month contract with a 12 month extension options out to August 2028 (2 years total)

  • Estimated start date August 2026 (pending onboarding and availability)

  • An NV1 Security clearance required (you must be an Australian Citizen to go through the vetting process).

  • Full time 40 hour work week. Hourly rate contract

  • Preferred Location: Canberra, ACT

  • Hybrid working options


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the selection and development of designing engineering methods, tools, and techniques for on-premise and hybrid data engineering solutions

  • Implement and assist in developing structure and data storing for usage in analytics and sharing with applications

  • Assist in designing, developing, and implementing structured and unstructured data pipelines ensuring data is fit for purpose

  • Understand the integration, consolidation, curation, migration, and transformation of data and aligns to relevant guidelines

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to determine the required data sets and analysis tools


Required Skills:

  • Advanced SQL skills to extract, explore, and manipulate complex, large-scale datasets

  • Experience delivering Microsoft 365 solutions will be highly regarded

  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks or Power BI would be desirable

  • Practical competency in programming languages like Python for automation and data manipulation

  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining automated data pipelines and integration workflows

  • Familiarity with relational/non-relational databases and cloud or hybrid data environments in Azure

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or analytics roles
