Senior Facade Designer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Façade Designer to independently manage façade design and detailing works, coordinate with consultants and project teams, and provide technical solutions throughout project execution. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring design accuracy, buildability, compliance with project specifications and timely delivery of design submissions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the preparation of comprehensive design drawings for curtain walls, window walls, cladding, skylights, canopies and louvres based on architectural and structural drawings.
2. Develop, review and finalise detailed shop drawings, construction sections, fabrication drawings and as-built drawings for consultant and client approval.
3. Perform preliminary design calculations, including wind load assessments, glass thickness selection, mullion sizing and bracket design, and coordinate with Professional Engineers (PE) for review and certification where required.
4. Utilise AutoCAD to coordinate façade interfaces with M&E, structural and architectural trades, and prepare material specifications for glass, aluminium, sealants and related components.
5. Develop and monitor design schedules, coordinate submission progress and prepare regular reports to ensure timely delivery of design deliverables.
6. Conduct site visits to verify installation compliance, resolve technical RFIs and site issues, and lead design-related quality inspections.
7. Identify technical and design risks, recommend mitigation measures and ensure design works comply with applicable BCA and SCDF requirements and WSH guidelines.
8. Coordinate façade performance testing, including water tightness, air infiltration and acoustic testing, and oversee mock-up preparation and laboratory testing support.
9. Attend tender briefings, conduct site measurements and prepare material take-offs (MTO), quantity schedules and technical information to support accurate quotations.
10. Develop and recommend Value Engineering (VE) proposals to improve buildability, design efficiency and cost effectiveness without compromising quality or performance.
11. Monitor material usage, wastage and design-related costs, and coordinate with project teams to optimise manpower, equipment and material resources.
12. Act as the key technical liaison between clients, architects, consultants and main contractors, and lead or attend technical coordination meetings.
13. Coordinate with internal teams, contractors and suppliers to ensure alignment on project requirements, specifications, approved drawings and schedules.
14. Manage and document design changes, Change Orders and Variation Orders (VOs), ensuring all revisions, additional works and technical implications are properly recorded and communicated.
15. Provide technical guidance to junior designers, review their drawings and ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with project requirements.
16. Demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines and respond promptly to urgent technical and site issues.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of relevant façade design experience, preferably in Singapore.
• Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and preparation of detailed façade shop drawings.
• Proven knowledge of curtain wall systems, aluminium cladding, glass façade systems and related components.
• Ability to independently interpret architectural and structural drawings and develop practical design solutions.
• Experience coordinating with consultants, contractors, clients and Professional Engineers.
• Good understanding of façade detailing, installation methods, construction practices and applicable Singapore requirements.
• Experience in site coordination, technical problem-solving, material take-offs and value engineering.
• Ability to guide junior designers and review technical drawings.
• Strong communication, organisational and project coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
