Summary

Senior firmware engineer at WOWCube, maker of a puzzle-cube-shaped gaming console, owning subsystems of their in-house OctaviOS on an ARM Cortex-M/RTOS platform — drivers, connectivity, power management, board bring-up and hardware debugging — while directing AI coding agents daily. Remote within EU time zones.

Embedded C/C++ Development • AI-Assisted Engineering • Hardware Bring-up & Debugging

Location: Remote (EU Time Zones)
Reports to: Embedded Systems Engineering Manager
Level: Senior (a strong middle+ with the right depth is welcome)

About WOWCube
WOWCube is a gaming console shaped as a puzzle cube: eight modules with 24 screens that act as one device. We build the hardware, our own operating system (OctaviOS), the system apps and the dock station. The current cube is shipping, the next generation is in bring-up.

About the role
You will join the embedded team and own whole subsystems of OctaviOS - from design to a release proven on real devices. AI coding agents are part of our everyday toolset and write a large share of the code; the engineer owns the design, keeps the codebase free of technical debt and is responsible for the solution working completely. That means deliberate development with full control over what the agents produce. We are looking for an engineer who turns this way of working into a multiple of a conventional developer's output and works well with the team.

Main responsibilities
Design, implement and debug C firmware for an ARM Cortex-M / RTOS platform: drivers, system modules, connectivity, power management etc.
Own features and fixes end-to-end: requirements, design, implementation, tests, verification on devices, release.
Bring up new board revisions and build the diagnostics for hardware testing.
Find root causes of crashes, memory corruption, timing and radio issues; prove fixes on hardware.
Use AI coding agents daily and keep them under control: prepare the context (architecture, hardware constraints, coding rules), review every change for correctness, reuse and size, improve the shared agent setup.
Review colleagues' work, keep design notes and tests current.

Requirements
5+ years of firmware development; at least one shipped consumer device.
Strong C (working C++) on ARM Cortex-M with an RTOS; comfortable with schematics, datasheets, a debugger and a logic analyzer.
Solid low-level knowledge: memory layout, DMA and caches, interrupts and timing, power management, a radio stack (BLE or similar), serial protocols.
Experience bringing up a new board and validating firmware on physical devices.
Systems thinking and a disciplined approach to debugging: reproduce, measure, prove - and the judgment to know when that rigour is needed and when a quick fix is right.
Daily use of AI coding agents (Claude Code or similar) in real projects, with the judgment to tell good generated code from plausible-looking bad code and the discipline to keep generated changes small, reusable and debt-free.
A team player: argues with evidence, accepts decisions once made, communicates clearly in writing, flags risks early.

Nice-to-Have
Python for tooling and test automation.
Vendor SDK bring-up on a less-documented SoC; RTOS internals.
2D graphics or game-engine work on constrained hardware.
Hardware-in-the-loop or factory test rigs; EVT/DVT/PVT experience.
Rust, MQTT, battery chargers and gauges.

How we work
Small PRs, host tests and CI on every push; a short design note for every mechanism; zero technical debt.
A bench (cube and dock) at your desk; tooling to flash, install and read telemetry remotely.
English for code and documentation; remote, async-friendly, EU hours.
