Senior Full-Stack Developer (GenAI Innovation)

  • Working Hours: Mon-Fri (Hybrid)
  • Remuneration: Up to $11,000 + AWS
  • Employment Type: Contract (1 year renewable with chances of conversion)

We are looking for a Full-Stack Developer to design, build, and maintain digital products that support the legal and prosecutorial functions of a key Government legal agency. This role focuses on end-to-end feature delivery, applying modern engineering practices, and supporting the organisation's GenAI initiatives, including LLM and RAG-based development, while maintaining robust engineering standards across the existing technology stack. The successful candidate will work closely with technical leads and legal domain experts to ensure the reliability, security, and quality of essential digital systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own the development and delivery of software features, ensuring code is robust, well-tested, and maintainable.
  • Adhere to high engineering standards, ensuring software systems are secure and reusable.
  • Participate actively in technical discussions and squad-level decisions, applying best practices in modern software development.
  • Adopt modern engineering practices and tools to support a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to technical leads and legal domain experts, and manage related work tasks.
  • Support senior engineers in updating technical plans and infrastructure roadmaps to meet evolving organisational needs.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of professional experience in software engineering, including building and maintaining reasonably large, high-availability software systems.
  • Experience in the public sector, legal, or highly regulated environments is an advantage but not required.
  • Strong experience in modern full-stack web application development, with proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for frontend and TypeScript/Python for AI-related backend development.
  • Hands-on experience with, or strong interest in, Generative AI (GenAI) development, including Large Language Models (LLMs), RAG patterns, and AI-driven features.
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
  • Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines, specifically using GitLab CI within the SHIP-HATS ecosystem.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain technical rationale clearly to product owners, technical stakeholders, and legal professionals.
  • A strong sense of ownership and the ability to work effectively in a professional, high-stakes organisational environment.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity — able to develop details of the work where none exist and drive progress independently.
  • A collaborative mindset, with willingness to learn from senior leads and grow within the team.
  • A genuine interest in the legal and justice sector and commitment to the public good.
  • A focus on engineering excellence, performance, and clean, well-documented code.
