Who We Are
Blackwell HR is a woman-founded human resources third party and consulting group based in Wilmington, Delaware, serving clients across the US.
With a focus on small to medium-sized businesses and nonprofits, our team of experienced HR professionals partner with clients across a variety of industries and business communities to develop and implement HR and solutions that allow business leaders to focus on achieving their mission and fully engage their teams.
We believe in operating with innovation, exercising compassion, being engaged with our clients, and delivering exceptional results. We live our values every day in the work we do with our clients, our community, and our team.
What You'll Do
You'll support 6-8 different clients rather than being immersed in just one company. You'll get exposure to different industries, business challenges, and HR needs while working alongside experienced HR professionals who can offer guidance and support.
You'll have meaningful ownership of your work, from processing payroll and administering benefits to preparing HR documentation, supporting employee relations, and helping clients improve their processes. You'll also have opportunities to build your client-facing skills and expand your HR knowledge as you grow.
- Support client relationships: Serve as a point of contact for routine HR questions, respond to client needs, and partner with HR Principals on more complex situations.
- Process payroll: Manage payroll processing for assigned clients, including multi-state employees and 1099 contractors, time and attendance, payroll deductions, tax-related requirements, and pre- and post-payroll reporting.
- Administer benefits: Coordinate benefits enrollment and ongoing administration, process employee changes, troubleshoot routine issues, and escalate complex questions when needed.
- Document document document: Create and maintain employee communications, policies, procedures, notices, and other HR documents that are accurate, clear, and appropriate for each client.
- Support employee relations: Help clients navigate routine employee questions and workplace matters, recognizing when a situation requires additional guidance from an HR Principal.
- Assist with projects: Support initiatives such as recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, and other client HR programs.
- Maintain HR systems and records: Keep employee information, HRIS data, benefits records, and documentation organized, accurate, and up to date.
- Improve how work gets done: Identify opportunities to make recurring processes more efficient, recommend improvements, and help implement better ways of working.
Who Are You?
You're a hands-on HR professional who enjoys variety and takes pride in getting the details right. You may have worked as part of a small HR team or in a generalist role where you had to be resourceful, learn quickly, and manage a range of responsibilities.
You're comfortable working independently on established processes and routine HR matters, but you also recognize when a situation calls for additional guidance. You communicate clearly, follow through on commitments, and understand that clients depend on you to be responsive, accurate, and professional.
You don't need to know every answer immediately. You do need to be willing to ask good questions, find answers, and take ownership of getting the work done.
- 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in an HR generalist, HR operations, or client-facing role.
- Experience supporting a small business, nonprofit, startup, or lean HR team is a plus.
- Working knowledge of core HR functions, such as payroll, benefits administration, employee documentation, onboarding, recruiting, and employee relations.
- Hands-on experience with payroll processing and HRIS systems. Experience with platforms such as ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Workday, Gusto, Rippling, or similar systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and follow-through.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with employees, managers, and senior leaders.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities.
- Comfort working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a team.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
What We Offer
- Full-time, W2 position with a base salary range of $70,000-$78,000
- Full benefits package + 401(k) match
- Four weeks PTO plus holidays
- Fully remote work environment with culture-building events twice annually
- Collaborative, low-ego team culture driven by our values: Determination, Integrity, Service Driven, Teamwork, and Innovation
