Senior Human Resources Consultant
At James Moore & Co. we are seeking a Senior HR Consultant. In this role, you will operate as a trusted executive advisor and fractional CHRO, helping clients navigate some of their most important people and organizational challenges. One engagement may involve redesigning a compensation strategy. Another may focus on organizational structure, succession planning, workforce capacity, leadership effectiveness, or helping a company prepare for its next stage of growth.
Success in this role requires a passion for delivering meaningful results, executive presence, strong business judgment, deep HR expertise, analytical capabilities, and the ability to quickly assess client needs and translate them into practical, effective workforce strategies in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
As the Senior HR Consultant, you will have the opportunity to:
- Work directly with senior decision-makers. You will advise CEOs, owners, executives, and leadership teams on issues that materially affect their organizations.
- Use the full breadth of your experience. Compensation, organizational design, workforce planning, talent strategy, succession, organizational effectiveness, and transformation can all become part of your work.
- Do strategic work with tangible outcomes. You will move beyond simply identifying problems. You will help clients make decisions, implement solutions, and improve how their organizations perform.
- Enjoy significant professional autonomy. Our clients are looking for seasoned judgment, not someone following a script. You will have room to assess situations, form a point of view, challenge assumptions, and recommend the right solution.
- Continue learning at a senior level. Every client brings a different business model, leadership team, workforce challenge, and set of constraints. The role offers the intellectual variety that many experienced HR leaders find difficult to get in a traditional internal position.
- Build lasting professional relationships. Our goal is not simply to complete projects. We want to become the advisor clients call when important people and organizational decisions arise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fractional CHRO & Executive Advisory
- Serve as a fractional CHRO and senior HR advisor to client organizations, advising CEOs, owners, executives, and leadership teams on complex workforce, organizational, and people-related business issues.
- Build credibility quickly with senior executives and serve as a trusted advisor on sensitive, complex, and high-impact business and workforce matters.
- Present complex findings and recommendations clearly and persuasively to executive audiences.
- Business Development & Client Growth
- Identify and develop new consulting and fractional HR opportunities by building relationships with prospective clients, referral partners, business leaders, and existing clients.
- Support business development through prospect meetings, needs assessments, proposal development, presentations, closing activities, market-facing events, and senior subject matter expertise.
- Take an active role in business development by identifying potential client needs, introducing relevant HR consulting solutions, and helping convert relationships into new or expanded engagements.
- Strategic HR Consulting & Workforce Solutions
- Assess client organizations to identify workforce risks, organizational opportunities, leadership needs, and strategic priorities, then translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Develop HR and workforce strategies aligned with each client’s operational, financial, and organizational objectives.
- Design and execute strategic HR solutions in areas such as compensation strategy, market analysis, job architecture, organizational design, workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide guidance beyond foundational HR compliance and policy work, with an emphasis on initiatives that materially affect organizational performance and workforce effectiveness.
- Organizational Change & Transformation
- Lead clients through organizational growth, change, restructuring, transformation, and workforce alignment initiatives.
- Client Engagement Leadership & Practice Contribution
- Manage multiple client relationships and engagements simultaneously while maintaining responsiveness, quality, accountability, and forward momentum.
- Navigate challenging client situations, competing priorities, ambiguity, and high-pressure deadlines with confidence and professionalism.
- Contribute to the continued growth of the HR consulting practice, including development of services, methodologies, tools, and market opportunities.
The successful candidate will bring:
- 10+ years of progressively responsible HR experience, including meaningful experience advising senior executives and organizational leaders.
- Senior-level expertise across several strategic HR disciplines, such as compensation, organizational design, workforce planning, talent strategy, succession planning, performance management, HR transformation, or organizational effectiveness.
- Experience in business development, including building and leveraging professional networks, identifying prospective client opportunities, developing referral relationships, expanding existing client engagements, and contributing to proposals and presentations.
- Experience leading complex HR initiatives from assessment and analysis through executive recommendations and implementation.
- The ability to connect business strategy and operational needs to workforce and organizational solutions.
- Strong executive communication, consulting, analytical, and presentation skills.
- The ability to manage multiple client engagements and priorities effectively.
- A commercial mindset and an interest in helping deepen client relationships and grow the practice.
- A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and experience incorporating AI tools into professional work.
- The ability to travel as needed to serve clients, participate in meetings and presentations, attend conferences, and connect with colleagues.
Experience We Will Value:
- Worked in HR consulting or professional services.
- Worked extensively in manufacturing and/or state government or public-sector environments.
- Served as a senior HR executive, fractional CHRO, consultant, or strategic advisor.
- Advised multiple organizations or leadership teams.
- Developed deep expertise in compensation strategy, organizational design, or strategic workforce planning.
