Summary

6-month contract Senior iOS Developer role in London (hybrid, 2 office days/week) at Royal London, the UK's largest mutual life, pensions and investment firm. Day to day: building native iOS apps with SwiftUI and UIKit, integrating REST APIs, driving CI/CD and testing practices within a newly formed engineering team delivering a Workplace Pensions platform.

Royal London is a financial services company with a difference. As the UK's largest mutual life, pensions and investment company, we're owned by our members and work for their benefit, not for shareholder profits. We've grown rapidly and have been recognised as one of the UK's top rated places to work.

Today, Royal London has over £114 billion of funds under management, and around 3,500 employees working in six offices across the UK and Ireland. We've worked hard to become experts in our specialist markets, building a trusted brand - and our teams have plenty of awards to show for it. Whatever team you're interested in joining and whatever role you play, we'll help you to make a difference.

Purpose of the Role:

We're looking for an experienced Senior iOS Developer to join a major technology transformation programme focused on delivering a brand new, state of the art Workplace Pensions platform.

This is a 6 month contract based in London, operating on a hybrid working model with 2 days per week in the office. You'll play a key role in shaping and delivering a modern mobile experience as part of a high profile digital transformation initiative.

This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact from day one, helping shape the mobile architecture, engineering standards, and customer experience within a newly formed engineering capability. You'll work alongside talented engineers, product specialists, and architects to deliver modern, scalable mobile solutions that support both customers and business users.

Responsibilities of the role:

As the Senior iOS Developer, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, and delivering high quality native iOS applications.
  • Building engaging mobile experiences using SwiftUI and UIKit.
  • Integrating mobile applications with APIs and backend services.
  • Driving engineering excellence through automated testing, CI/CD, and modern development practices.
  • Collaborating closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and Architecture teams.
  • Contributing to technical decisions, code quality, and platform evolution.
  • Supporting and mentoring other developers where required.
  • Helping establish best practices within a newly created engineering function.

What we require from the candidate:

  • Extensive commercial experience developing native iOS applications.
  • Strong expertise in SwiftUI and UIKit.
  • Proven software engineering background building scalable, production grade mobile applications.
  • Experience integrating applications with RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Hands-on experience with iOS CI/CD pipelines and automated build processes.
  • Strong understanding of TDD and automated testing practices.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and deliver at pace.
  • Passion for engineering best practice and continuous improvement.
