GEM APAC is looking for a IT SeniorBusiness Analyst, to improve the reliability of the existing systems, andsupport the development of the new systems. The role is based in Singapore. Itrequires daily interactions with the teams in Europe/Japan/India/Australia. Businesstrips may be required from time to time

As a member of the IT team inSingapore, the senior IT business analyst officer is also expected to contributeto the cohesion of the IT team.

Role / Key responsibilities

1.Business Analysis & Functional Design

  • Engage closely with traders, risk managers, and middle office teams to gather, analyze, and document business requirements related to trade booking, trade life cycle events, short-term trading activities, and risk/P&L reporting.
  • Analyze existing business processes, workflows, and system behaviors to identify functional gaps, operational inefficiencies, control weaknesses, and compliance risks.
  • Translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications, ensuring alignment with global architecture, technology standards, and industry best practices.
  • Design and document workflows, data flows, business rules, and use cases to support enhancement initiatives and maintain end-to-end requirements traceability.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business objectives.

2.Trade Risk & Trade Life Cycle Focus

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the front-to-back trade life cycle, with a particular focus on pricing, risk sensitivities (Greeks), P&L explain, and valuation processes.
  • Partner closely with Market Risk and Product Control teams to enhance the accuracy, transparency, and effectiveness of risk reporting, valuation controls, and limit monitoring frameworks.
  • Validate risk engine outputs and support the testing, calibration, and implementation of new risk models, methodologies, and metrics in collaboration with Quantitative Analysts and Development teams.
  • Analyze and investigate valuation, risk, and P&L discrepancies, ensuring timely identification and resolution of issues impacting risk reporting and business performance.
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, risk functions, and technology teams to ensure risk management requirements are accurately reflected within trading and risk management systems.

3.Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Serve as the primary functional bridge between business stakeholders (Front Office, Market Risk, Operations, Finance) and local/global IT teams.
  • Communicate business priorities, constraints, and dependencies clearly to ensure alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead workshops, requirement gathering sessions, and user feedback forums to identify opportunities for process and system improvement.
  • Promote effective collaboration between regional and global teams to ensure successful project delivery and operational support.

4.Testing, UAT & Go-Live Support

  • Define test strategies, UAT scenarios, and test scripts aligned with business requirements and expected outcomes.
  • Coordinate and support user acceptance testing, including data validation, regression testing, defect management, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure all functional requirements are adequately tested and validated before deployment.
  • Oversee go-live planning and execution, ensuring appropriate change management, user communication, training, and post-implementation support.
  • Monitor production deployments and support business users during hypercare periods.

5.Continuous Improvement & Documentation

  • Proactively identify and recommend system enhancements to improve automation, operational efficiency, data quality, control frameworks, and user experience.
  • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation covering business processes, functional specifications, workflows, and system configurations.
  • Contribute to release planning activities and support the definition and execution of the APAC application roadmap.
  • Promote best practices and standardization across business processes and system usage.
  • Support innovation initiatives and evaluate emerging technologies or solutions that could benefit trading and risk management operations.

6.Production Support & Knowledge Management

  • Participate in Level 2 application support activities, ensuring timely investigation and resolution of business and system issues.
  • Provide functional expertise to support teams and act as an escalation point for complex incidents and production problems.
  • Develop and deliver training materials, knowledge transfer sessions, and operational documentation to strengthen team capabilities.
  • Foster knowledge sharing and cross-training within the team to improve resilience and reduce key-person dependencies.
  • Monitor recurring issues and drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to support KPIs through effective incident management, team coaching, and continuous enhancement of support processes.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related discipline.

Professional Experience

  • 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Functional Analyst, or Application Specialist within commodity trading, energy trading, or financial services environments.
  • Strong experience supporting trading, risk management, and portfolio management processes across front, middle, and back-office functions.
  • Proven experience working in live trading environments and supporting business-critical applications.
  • Experience with ETRM/CTRM, trading, or risk management platforms such as Orchestrade, Endur, Murex, Calypso, Beacon, or equivalent solutions.
  • Experience working with global and cross-regional teams in delivering business and technology initiatives.

Trading & Risk ManagementKnowledge

  • Strong understanding of the complete trade life cycle including trade capture, validation, confirmations, fixings, exercises, liquidations, terminations, settlements, and reporting.
  • Solid knowledge of risk management concepts and metrics, including:
  • Greeks and sensitivities
  • P&L explain and attribution
  • Mark-to-Market (MtM)
  • Value-at-Risk (VaR)
  • Position and exposure management
  • Limit monitoring and controls
  • Understanding of pre-trade pricing, valuation methodologies, and risk engine concepts.
  • Experience with market data management, curve building, valuation curves, and market data retrieval platforms.
  • Knowledge of commodity and derivative products, including power, gas, LNG, emissions, oil, and structured products.
  • Understanding of static data management, reference data governance, and workflow management processes.

Business Analysis &Delivery Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to gather, challenge, analyze, and document complex business requirements.
  • Proficient in writing functional specifications, business process documentation, use cases, test cases, and UAT scenarios.
  • Experience conducting impact assessments, gap analyses, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced and demanding trading environment.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, testing cycles, production releases, and post-go-live activities.

Technical Skills

  • Good understanding of trading system architectures and integrations.
  • Experience in production monitoring and Level 2 application support for large-scale IT systems.
  • Strong SQL skills for data analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Good scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Shell scripting, or equivalent).
  • Experience with automation and scheduling tools such as Automic or similar workload automation platforms.
  • Good understanding of Windows environments and enterprise application ecosystems.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
