Senior Java Backend Developer

We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Developer to own the software development life cycle, from planning and prioritisation through to testing and release, and to build and maintain functional, secure, high-quality Java applications while providing technical leadership to junior developers. Key responsibilities: Design, develop and maintain high-performance, scalable Java backend applications Own the SDLC: gather system and user requirements, build Java modules, and test features before release Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design and ship new features Write clean, maintainable, efficient code following best practices and industry standards Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and share knowledge Troubleshoot and debug complex issues in a timely, efficient manner Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tools and methodologies Work with product managers, designers and stakeholders to translate requirements into high-quality solutions Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field Proven experience as a Senior Java Backend Developer or in a similar role Strong proficiency in Java / Java EE and related frameworks (Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate) Experience designing, building and testing microservices and RESTful APIs Solid grasp of software development principles, design patterns and best practices Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL) Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) Good to have: Domain knowledge in private banking / wealth management or financial services Soft skills: Strong communication, listening and presentation skills Analytical, structured problem-solving Proactive and dynamic, with a strong sense of initiative and appetite for continuous learning Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
