Senior Java Engineer (Accounting Services) - Leading Investment Bank

Our client is a leading global financial services firm delivering world-class investment banking, securities, investment management, and wealth management solutions. Their technology teams power mission-critical financial platforms that support global markets and high-value client services. On their behalf, we are seeking experienced Senior Java Engineers to join their Portfolio Accounting Technology team supporting wealth management platforms across Asia.

As a Senior Java Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and modernising core portfolio accounting platforms that support real-time portfolio valuations, transactions, accruals, performance calculations, and statement generation for high-net-worth clients. Working closely with global engineering teams, architects, product owners, and QA teams, you will build scalable, high-performance backend services and distributed systems that enable next-generation financial technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Application Development: Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java applications using Core Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architecture to support critical portfolio accounting platforms.
• Platform Modernisation: Modernise existing accounting engines by building scalable, reusable backend components, event-driven workflows, and cloud-ready microservices integrated with broader wealth management platforms.
• Distributed Systems & Performance Optimisation: Develop and optimise high-performance backend services, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and improve system scalability, reliability, and processing efficiency for data-intensive applications.
• Database & Data Engineering: Design and optimise database solutions using SQL-based technologies such as DB2, with strong understanding of data modelling, data processing, and transaction-based systems.
• System Integration & APIs: Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations across multiple enterprise applications, ensuring seamless connectivity and high availability.
• CI/CD & Engineering Practices: Support application deployment, release processes, automated testing, and modern software engineering practices within Agile development environments.
• Cross-Regional Collaboration: Collaborate with global technology teams across Asia, including engineering, architecture, QA, and product teams, to deliver high-quality software solutions and platform enhancements.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

• 3–6+ years of experience in Java backend development within enterprise, banking, or financial services environments.
• Strong expertise in Core Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, and object-oriented programming principles.
• Solid experience with multithreading, design patterns, debugging, and backend application architecture.
• Hands-on experience with SQL databases such as DB2, with knowledge of data modelling, optimisation, and transaction processing.
• Good understanding of distributed systems, scalable application design, and performance tuning.
• Experience developing enterprise applications using Agile methodologies and modern engineering practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within global technology teams.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

• Experience working with financial systems, portfolio accounting, ledger platforms, or transaction processing applications.
• Exposure to Kafka, NoSQL databases, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native application development.
• Experience building event-driven architectures and data streaming solutions.
• Knowledge of wealth management, investment platforms, or enterprise financial technology solutions.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools, infrastructure automation, or modern DevOps practices.
