Senior / Lead Data Engineer

As a Senior / Lead Data Engineer, you will work within a data-driven environment focused on the further development and professionalization of the data platform. The main focus of this assignment is the transition to dbt (Data Build Tool) within a Databricks environment. You will work alongside two other Data Engineers, combining hands‑on development with a technical leadership role within the team.

Responsibilities

• Execute and guide the transition to dbt within the existing Databricks environment
• Develop and optimize data pipelines and transformations hands‑on
• Implement best practices around dbt and modern data engineering
• Provide technical direction and guidance to the Data Engineering team
• Support and mentor two other Data Engineers, actively sharing and transferring knowledge
• Ensure the quality, scalability and maintainability of data solutions
• Contribute to the further professionalization and standardization of data engineering practices
• Collaborate with the team responsible for setting up and managing the Databricks environment

Profile

As a Senior / Lead Data Engineer, you combine strong hands‑on technical expertise with the ability to guide and support other engineers. You have previously executed a transition to dbt and can demonstrate this experience through a specific project. You are independent, communicative and comfortable taking technical ownership while remaining actively involved in development.

Requirements

• Senior or Lead-level experience within Data Engineering
• Strong hands‑on experience with Databricks
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience with dbt (Data Build Tool)
• Proven experience executing a transition to dbt
• Ability to demonstrate your dbt transition experience through a specific project
• Experience developing and optimizing modern data pipelines and transformations
• Strong understanding of data engineering best practices
• Ability to provide technical guidance to other Data Engineers
• Strong communication skills and experience with knowledge sharing and mentoring

Nice‑to-haves

• Previous experience as a Lead Data Engineer or technical team lead
• Experience coaching or mentoring Data Engineers
• Experience working within large‑scale Databricks environments
• Experience professionalizing and standardizing data engineering processes

A separate team is responsible for setting up and managing the Databricks environment, allowing you to focus on data engineering, the dbt transition and supporting the team throughout this process.
