Senior / Lead Product Manager - New Verticals
Description
About the role
This is a true 0-to-1 product role. You won't always have a clear roadmap, deep, established knowledge of the new customer base, or a proven solution. You'll need the curiosity to explore new adjacent markets, the business judgment to identify opportunities worth pursuing, and the ability to move quickly from insights to real products.
You'll report to the Head of Product and work closely with Co-founders, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Partnerships, and other teams across Baselane.
What you'll do
- Flesh out, validate, and execute on new opportunities. Take identified new market opportunities and customer segments to flesh out their workflows, motivations, pain points, and financial needs to deliver meaningful value for Baselane.
- Get close to customers. Lead hands-on research through interviews, workflow observations, surveys, and usability testing. Go beyond what customers say they want to uncover underlying problems, unmet needs, and opportunities others might miss.
- Evaluate and prioritize opportunities. Combine customer insights, market research, competitive analysis, and business data to assess market potential, willingness to pay, revenue opportunity, and strategic fit.
- Validate ideas quickly. Turn insights into clear hypotheses and test them through experiments, prototypes, and lightweight MVPs. Leverage AI tools to rapidly build interactive prototypes, explore solutions, and gather customer feedback before committing significant engineering resources.
- Take products from 0 to 1. Own the journey from problem definition and initial product concepts through MVP development, launch, and iteration. Work closely with Design and Engineering to turn ambiguous opportunities into simple, differentiated products.
- Find product-market fit. Define success metrics and use customer feedback, adoption, engagement, retention, and revenue signals to understand what's working. Make informed decisions about when to iterate, scale, pivot, or stop.
- Work smarter with AI and automation. Proactively use AI and automation to accelerate research, analysis, prototyping, and product development. Identify repetitive workflows that can be automated so you and your team can spend more time solving meaningful problems.
- Shape product strategy. Develop a clear point of view on which problems we should solve, who we should solve them for, and how Baselane can win. Translate your learnings into a focused product vision and roadmap.
- Bring new products to market. Partner with Marketing and cross-functional teams on positioning, launch strategy, and early customer acquisition. Use post-launch insights to refine the experience and build toward repeatable growth.
- Lead a dedicated product pod. Partner closely with dedicated Product Design and Engineering team members to drive execution, maintain momentum, and deliver high-impact results.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of product management experience, with a strong track record of building and launching new products or expanding into new customer segments.
- Proven 0-to-1 experience. You've taken ambiguous opportunities from initial discovery through validation, launch, and iteration, ideally without an established playbook.
- Exceptional customer curiosity and research skills. You know how to enter unfamiliar industries, ask the right questions, uncover meaningful customer problems, and translate messy qualitative insights into clear product direction.
- Strong product intuition and creativity. You can look beyond existing solutions, connect customer needs to new opportunities, and envision compelling products that solve real problems.
- Strong business acumen. You can size markets, assess competitive dynamics, understand business models and unit economics, and make thoughtful decisions about where to invest.
- Excellent analytical skills. You're comfortable working hands-on with SQL, product analytics, and experimentation. You can combine qualitative and quantitative signals to validate hypotheses and make decisions.
- An AI-first, hands-on approach. You're comfortable using AI tools to independently build functional prototypes, automate workflows, accelerate analysis, and move ideas forward. You actively experiment with new tools and find ways to improve how you work.
- Strong ownership and execution. You can turn an ambiguous problem into a clear plan, build alignment, and drive products from concept to launch without needing constant direction.
- Excellent communication and collaboration. You can articulate a compelling product vision, challenge assumptions constructively, and influence cross-functional teams and leadership.
